Fitting gas heater

So, I bought my first ever caravan last year, a 2000 Puck L. It has the chimney but no heater. I never expected to want to use it in winter, so thought I’d sooner have the storage anyway.

Turns out we (me and the dog) love our caravan, even in the snow :).

I got through this winter with a wee oil filled radiator. We were very comfortable, but it is quite a constraint always needing hookup.

So I am exploring getting a gas heater fitted.

Our local caravan service place quotes £800ish for the Truma gas only heater, £1100ish for the gas+electric version. Plus an estimated £120ish to fit.

I’m wondering whether it might be possible to find a gas heater someone is taking or has taken out, and find someone to fit it for me. The local caravan service place says they can’t fit a secondhand appliance, but once fitted, they would service it as part of the annual service.

Advice, ideas, anyone?

2nd hand units do become available, so if you can find the model number one will be out there for you. For example I sold the heater out of my 2006 Familia to JohnE some years ago. You may be able to consider alternatives, such as a combined space/water heater.
Where are you located, as [fine man] JohnE is not only a forum member and Eriba owner but a caravan service engineer. http://www.nestoncaravanservices.co.uk

Yes, I’m in North Cornwall. I have family in the West Midlands, so someone in that area could work too.

Thanks for replies so far. Logic said that secondhand units must come up, since the original in my ‘van appears to have been removed, and I’ve seen other people talk about taking them out.

I didn’t realise there would be different Truma heaters for different Eribas, though....
