Frame Repairs to our Troll 2001 LMT (similar to a Troll 540 GT)

Now the fun begins !!!

Having finally removed the floor of our Troll 2001 LMT in 4 pieces (hopefully to re-fit as they are in good condition), it's now time to evaluate what I need to do in the way of repairs.
First I will remove all the external rust and paintwork to check the whole frame out.

So far it looks as though the rear leg supports have completely rotted out, as has the external support frame (square tubing). A common problem !!!

The front diagonals in the frame have also rusted and have become detached from the outer framework.

Finally the waist frame at the front has also started to rust through..........this is going to be a real pain to repair, but has to be done.

Wish me luck, cos' I'm going to need it !!!

Thanks Randa and Tomored...........only time will tell if I've made a wise move !! Maybe I should have bid on the 2000 LMT 540gt up for sale. It looks like a virtually unused bargain at £9750....hey hoh !!

Take care

Graham

This scares me because my Troll is only 5 years newer and I would not be able to undertake such a huge project.

What can I do to preserve the frame on my 2006 Troll?

First make sure the seal between the roof and body is not leaking. It's worth having it checked out. Not difficult, but will help preserve what is below. Then check the waistline seal. Both top and bottom seal are easily removed and replaced with new. If either seal goes, there is usually a tell tale sign on the inner wall panels starting to swell or discolour, often hidden behind the seat cushions !!!

I always use JANDI near Glasgow for spares.....great service, price and know Eribas inside out and backwards. (I live in Cornwall, their deliveries are always prompt, however a little longer at this time of year.

Check out the front and particularly rear supports for the corner steady legs.

Also have a look at the front framework which is underneath the gas locker.....It's where the diagonals meet the front outer bodywork support frame.

Have look at my photos for the details as described above.

Finally make sure that the rest of the chassis is clean and rust free. If not scrape down to bare metal, prime with a zinc primer and topcoat with ideally 2 coats of Hammerite.

If after all that you can't face the tasks involved (particularly frame repairs), MPH in Cheshire have a fine reputation for taking Eribas on. Details elsewhere on the Eribafolk website.

I wish you all the luck. It is worthwhile, and will not only keep your caravan in good order, but help to retain its value.

Have some of these after you've finished, you'll have deserved it.
