Awnings

Hi everyone.
My wife and I are newbies and have come to realise that an awning would be a great idea for keeping bikes and dirty clothes/shoes etc in.
We have a 2018 Triton 430GT 60 edition.
Does anybody know if the Kampa Pop Pro 340 will allow the door to open completely so that it's held back by the clip?
Conversely, does anyone have an opinion (good or bad) on the Wigo Vision awning?
Or, is there another that ought to be on our shortlist?
BTW it's lovely to be part of such a friendly group. We've already had many a wave from fellow owners on the 3 short trips that we've done.
Thanks a bunch
Steve and Alison

Steve, Alison,
hopefully the attached photos may help you.
The Kampa has had a lot of coverage on this forum, mostly negative from me. They have brought out an improved 2019 model that I have bought to replace my earlier disaster. This is now an excellent fit on your later Triton and if you are to stay on a site for anything more than a few days well worth considering.
Since starting Eriba ownership in 2003 we have developed our own system of "which awning" to use:-
- We always travel with a Fiamma Caravanstore 2.8m fitted on the opposite side to the door. When we arrive on site if it's raining we can quickly get this set up and have some shelter for what comes out of the car. During our stay it gives shade to a portable fridge and the bikes. If it rains the clothes airer goes under it as do the bikes.
- Door side is the Kampa with the excellent Kampa groundsheet. You will find the door does sometimes just touch the roof, depending upon the slope of the site. You MUST go for the 2019 model.
- The Isabella Shadow 3m is used instead of this when it's very hot, or on 1st and last days of a trip allowing quick set-up or pack away. When/if it rains you pull the front into a v formation and it sheds water fine, but it does blow in from the sides.
- The Sunncamp Swift is a recent addition, only released a couple of years ago. Ideal for short stays when the weather is not good, offering the side protection that the Isabella lacks.

The Vision is a lovely looking thing and I took the photo this year in France of one fitted to a German van. Whilst they like it they reinforced comments that it does pool water. It is not readily available in the UK and when you do come across one they are expensive.

I have usually bought awnings second hand as owners tend to swap and change. The Isabella was about £60 and the Caravanstore £100. The Sunncamp was bought new on offer at £85, which I think is now £115. If you do go for a Kampa then phone around for a deal. Don't bother with the extra tie-down straps or the terrible gutter trim [try http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/pdf/ETS1395DR.pdf] instead and get the great genuine awning carpet. Dean at Lowdhams of Nottingham is very helpful and went the extra mile for me. [Colin Motteram] so may be worth a call.

Hi Steve and Alison and welcome to Eribafolk.

I think the straight answer to your question is no, the door will not fold back on your 430 whichever awning you chose.

If you look at this picture of a typical 430 g4p132-Triton.html you'll see that the door when fully open is way past the start of the curved roof of the van. It's the same situation with any Triton. Note where the awning rail mounting bracket is located relative to the door edge.

Only the Troll range with a "double front dinette" or similar can have the door fully open within an awning.

The Outdoor Revolution Movelite T2 will just about allow the door to open fully on a Triton. You have to pull the awning as far forward as you can and release the buckle at the top. Even then the door will rub against the awning but it will open fully, just about. I'd like it to be a lot better but it is not an expensive awning.

Thanks v much for the welcome by the way.
We never thought that we would be caravanners (I nearly put caravan nerds!), but somehow this is different. The Eriba is a lovely place to be. Difficult to put into words - but we’re loving it!

Nothing new there amongst many forum members. I'd go as far as to say I don't really like "normal" caravans aka white wobbly boxes, gin palaces.

Thanks Colin. The SunnCamp Swift Van 260 looks really good. I might get one of those.
Is there any chance where it touches the Eriba 310 (on the side) in it rubbing off the very thin paint on a dimple model, or I am bit a bit too precious?

I also have dimples.
I've used ours three times, once in very high winds and cannot see an issue with it rubbing. It may inhibit opening your side window and accessing the under bed locker, but this is an issue with most non model specific awnings and can probably be jiggled around.
