Security on Cs and CL sites
Security on Cs and CL sites

If we actually get to use our Triton this year we're looking at CS and CL sites as the main club sites are just so expensive - though even Certified Sites are charging what club sites did just a few years ago.
Anyhoo - what occurs to me is that most of these sites are in farm fields often just next to a road and open to anyone who wants to just drive in, find a van without its car and just nick anything they can find......
..........or am I just paranoid?

We've stayed on about 1/2 dozen or so. They have always been down quite country lanes next to a farmhouse etc. Security never really crossed my mind but we don't have a full awning set-up with chairs etc left outside.

We’ve used loads of certified sites and never had a problem. But I always fit the hitch lock and wheel clamp anyway and not leave any valuables in sight inside the van if we go out.

Security should be a consideration on whatever site you find yourself on. Your van is not a secure unit so make it as difficult as possible for a potential thief who will always go for an easy option whether you’re on a small or large site.

It is very difficult to be secure on any campsite irrespective of if you are in a Caravan, Campervan, Motorhome or Tent. If some low life wants to steal your possessions they will do it. We rely on being in a herd (other campers to look after each other) when away from your pitch. However you only have to see lack of any reaction to say a car alarm going off to wonder if anyone would actually do anything.
I have been camping for more years to remember and have left out chairs tables cool boxes full of you know what stuff just pushed under the van and have not experienced a theft (damn done it now??) But it is only material stuff they will steal if they desire to do it hence we have insurance!

New Forest campsites can provide easy access for thieves (and plenty of cover to escape)

There's very little point in worrying about it, when we were robbed a few years ago it was on a very secure CMC approved site just north of Reims,
2 m fence all round controlled gate locked at night, they cut toe holds in the fence to climb over, popped the catches on our front windows, raised the blinds and took quite a lot of stuff, which in those days we used to leave on the front dinette table, we were asleep at the time in the rear on the van and didn't hear a thing and no we hadn't had and alcohol that night. We are mote cautious now but this is why all we have insurance.
Dave
PS They did another van that night and came back 2 days later and did 2 more
