Nose weight

On my 2015 eriba 320 there is large cupboards under the sink but I’ve very very little there. I have a new Thule smart bike rack fitted by the main dealers and a carbon fibre rd bike on it + one 6kg gas bottle and a 3.9kg I think. I don’t know what my nose weight is exactly (been looking for my old nose weight gauge) but when I’ve picked the front end up it feels dam heavy. I’ve been thinking of ways to lighten my nose weight, various lighter gas cylinders, leaving the flush tank empty till I get on site etc. What nose weights do most people tend to travel with? I know everyone’s car has a different allowance & that you usually have 5% of your gross weight as your ideal nose weight as long as that doesn’t exceed your cars allowance

Get the bathroom scales out and set the van up on a level surface. Sit the scales on a board or hard surface and prop a length of timber under the hitch to check the noseweight. I've towed a 1000kg Triton, 1300kg Troll, 500kg Camplet, 900kg Familia and 1200kg Triton with a VW Touran, Skoda Yeti and presently Audi A3. All have performed best around 50/55kg nose weight.
If you are running heavy on the noseweight then how about sitting a box on the bathroom floor and emptying the kitchen contents into it when towing. Awning could also sit on the floor in rear seating area. You could also consider a Calorlite gas bottle.

I gather they have stopped making the calorlite bottle and problems getting hold of them and exchanging them for another light one at times. Flogas do a light weight refillable one but I need to look into it more when I get an accurate nose weight first

There was definitely a press release about the calorlite cylinders and availability (last year?) but there doesn’t seem to be a shortage. Camp sites and dealers all seem to have them again.

We have 418GT with a fixed bed, the same bike rack, and the same gas bottles. I always aim for ~65kg.
As delivered from the factory (spare wheel, battery, bike rack) the nose weight is 45kg.
With the gas bottles it goes up to 55kg.
I store a few chairs, table, etc under the bed and a Cadac, induction hob under the seats but I still need to put the inflatable awning under the table to get up to 65kg.
Add two bikes and I then have to move the awning to under the bed. Swap the bikes for our electric ones and the awning then needs to be pushed right to the back of the storage space.
It has taken me quite some time to work out what to put where.

The 320 is generally nose heavy because the van is small and the kitchen and the bathroom furniture is forward of the wheels at the front of the van.
Be careful that you don't try and compensate with a heavy nose weight by putting extra weight at the back of the van, this can cause a dumb bell effect with it swaying from side to side under certain conditions.

No need to weigh it if you measure the volume you pour in. For water the density is 1 gram per cc.

i don't know the capacity of the tank on my 2015 320 (someone probably will ) but i will measure how much i put back in and depending if i'm only going for two nights and possibly just half fill it. lighter gas bottles would help but that's another can of worms with Calor potentially stopping making there light version but as a brand there the most available. Or the other option is but one of the refillable ones which are very expensive to buy the bottle but far cheaper for gas. I'm very tied with work etc and just grabbing a couple of nights a normal bottle will last me some time otherwise it would be a no brainer if i was having weeks at a time i'd have the refillable one
