I have a darling little 1978 Familia which does get cold. Now getting a 2006 Triton. Are these later models better insulated than the early ones?

Your 2006 Triton will have 26mm ? polystyrene insulation. I think this is the same as in your 1978 Familia, so you will not notice any upgrade.

25 mm walls 35 mm floor.

The 2006 van may come with a carpet. If not, buy a runner. We find it makes a difference in cold weather and can be removed easily when not needed.

One up from a carpet, in our opinion, is a non slip rubber matt runner. It's difficult to describe, but imagine the non slip matting you use on cupboard shelves, the silicon rubber stuff with a mesh of holes.
The floor version of this is about 6 to 8 mm thick, sometimes sold in 1500 x 600 rolls in IKEA and Lidl, or cut to length from the rolls found in some French DIY stores.
You are looking for something like this, only a lot thicker and I cannot seem to find any Werbung: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Non-Slip-Mat-...qUAAOSwNV9cgWXQ
It is warm under foot in winter and equally good when summer camping on dusty sites as the dirt falls through the holes and the surface stays clean. Every few days we roll ours up and use a dust pan and brush to tidy up. Soak it in a bucket of soapy water at the end of your travels and it comes up as good as new.

I use a sheepskin rug which feels lovely and warm underfoot.
