In the early hours of last Thursday morning, while my son was fast asleep, the police put a card through his door telling him that his legally parked, insured, taxed and MOT'd car had been 'damaged in a road traffic incident' in the road around the corner from his flat in Bournemouth.

This is what he found.

Note angle of nearside rear wheel that was slammed into kerb.

Thick moly grease up the driver's door (it was also on the windscreen and bonnet)

Obviously, the car is a write-off.

It could have been worse, this 20 year old stop-gap car bought 27 months ago for £400 which we think would have managed another year or two is no great loss (apart from the inconvenience). My son nearly bought a £6,000 BMW a couple of months ago, so it could have been much worse.

The driver of the other car abandoned it and, according to neighbours, spoke for a while on his phone 'in a foreign language' and then simply buggered off. The police have so far been unable to locate him.

So, my son has decided that although he's insured fully comp (cheaper than TPF&T would you believe), it's not worth risking his NCB to claim as any payout less the £100 excess would be negligible. He is now under pressure to buy a replacement.

Here are some bits that we found left in the street from the other car (an 05 Mondeo) after it had been towed away,

Bearings

and,

A sodding constant velocity joint - he really must have been motoring to do that.

What's the betting the driver wasn't insured and was driving under the influence of drink and or drugs? Bastard!
