Hi - new on here and proud owner of 2003 model Troll 530 that we recently purchased. We took it for a service and they said it had some damp around front of the caravan at a higher level which I would like to try and trace down and get fixed. My thoughts are that the metal band used to fix the awning must be leaking or possibly the fittings at the top of the two front windows.
I was going to start by removing and re-sealing the awning band and found a great blog on here for how to do that. Is this the best place to start?
Thanks, Rich

My commiserations on the damp. Your best bit is to go with the advice on how others on the forum have fixed this issue. The common places do seem to be ingress from broken mastic seal on the awning track, similar mastic/gasket failure over the high level rear light and failed window rubbers.
Best of luck - Colin

Thanks Colin. The awning track is made up of a rubber strip nearest the caravan with an aluminium strip screwed on and then a hermiz strip to hide the screw heads. I have found a supplier for hermiz strip and the aluminium strip is reused but is it necessary to replace the rubber band that sits closest to the caravan or is it sufficient to just remove, reapply silicon sealant and then screw it all back together?
If I need to replace the rubber band - where can I get it from please as Google is coming up blank!

Rich,
somebody should come along soon with advice on the rubber strip, or better still you could PM those members in the blogs who have done the job.
What I can advise on is do NOT use silicon. Sikaflex is the preferred mastic/sealant/adhesive. It comes in a tube and the best one I think is 221 or 228. Screwfix or Toolstation also sell some of the Sikaflex range. While you are at it you could replace the rusty screws. A while ago somebody recommended these people. https://www.spaldingfasteners.co.uk/no-6...tapping-screws/

Colin- great, yes I meant silkaflex but called it silicon as I could not remember how to spell it (rubbish at spelling!). Always call it silkaffects or something like that :-) thanks also for link to the screws which is mega helpful. Ta

You can use a mastic strip specially made for awning rails which will make the job easier.

Thanks for the link to that mastic strip - does that replace the need for silkaflex or is it a replacement for the rubber that sits between caravan and the aluminum strip? Thanks

Hi RichL...have seen your PM and will reply. Yes, we used the mastic strip from Amazon as above post but make sure it is the 45mm wide, I think, not the narrower width as makes life more difficult to fix. Easy to get excess off. Talk soon, Chris
