Robbie
That sounds like a really clever solution to the shower problem, that gives you the independence from the site facilities without compromising the bathroom wood in the Troll & without trying to turn around in the Troll bathroom.

Opened the link and not shocked to see that they were all out of stock given the current situation.

Wish I had not said that I would try out my possible shower through window & AL Porch Awning solution when it stopped raining. It has rained heavily in the Ribble Valley almost non-stop since. In fact I could have had a very cold shower outside every day in the open air..........................

Here's another idea. I'm quite tempted as I'm not too keen on shared showers.

I'm going to hide what we consider a serious question in this thread and hope that there are folk out there who will not be too sensitive to answer it.

Both on this forum and also on Facebook, there are many dozens of posts regarding the potential problems of showering while on campsites during this continuing scare.

However, what do folk do regarding using the toilet? In all our years of camping and caravanning, where we've had our own toilet facilities available, we have never used them for doing a poo?

I'm sure I'm not alone in stating that as we get older our need for the toilet becomes more frequent and more urgent and I would like to quote you what John (Poptop320) wrote yesterday regarding the CMC campsite arrangements:-

Zitat
"The toilets are going to be interesting for Eriba owners as most of us use the on-site facilities, you get a rubber band with your pitch number for each member, there are only two showers and two toilets open in each block, and only two people are allowed in the block at any one time. Outside the block are a couple of coat hooks where you put your bands, if there are two bands visible then you have to wait outside. It looks like I will be using the Eriba shower and toilet most of the time"..

From a bloke's point of view I can see a scenario where there are two elastic bands on the outside hooks while there are a couple of geezers in the shower block slowly scraping their faces. A shower or a shave can take place at any time of the day while the other S word needs to happen as soon as you get the call, especially as you get older.

So it begs the question of those who have used their own toilet facilties:-
Do you open the trap door first?
How do you dispose of the toilet tissue?
Do you empty the cassette once a day or more?

'We have been experimenting with the shower options, we have a 540 with hot water, the shower curtain supplied only fits on three sides ! It is also about 12 cms short of reaching the tray, there’s no higher holder for the shower head.
So I’ve bought another shower curtain and expanding pole for the window side, sewn extra onto existing curtain, have a cheap gadget on its way for shower head'.

Sounds like a good idea! Please can I have details of the expanding pole (is it one with a spring so that it doesn't need permanent fixing?) And what is the 'cheap gadget' for the shower head, please.

In relation to Post 18. You need a pack of 'Happy Bowl' RV toilet bowl liners. Normally available from either Amazon or Towsure; but perhaps not surprisingly in these times, both are currently out of stock. These are tissue liners for the toilet bowl that go, together with whatever you drop, into the Thetford cassette for subsequent disposal. They remove the need to open the flap before use and ensure a clean bowl afterwards. Opening the flap without one otherwise runs the risk of splash back. If you do put solids in the cassette then increase the toilet fluid dosing to maximum concentration. Emptying daily is probably advised but is also temperature dependant; cooler conditions will allow longer times between emptying. Finally in terms of paper it is best to use RV toilet paper which along with the liners will easily break down in the cassette without the risk of blockages that can occur with domestic toilet paper. Experience on other Forums will always produce a different view about domestic paper causing any risk of blockage, if you subscribe to that alternative view my advice is to make sure you have some heavy duty gloves to hand!!

Wow Alan. Thanks for that solid bit of information. I have never heard of "Happy Bowl". However, I've now found this video:-

Here is an update and hopefully some answers to the Eriba toilet conundrum.

So far on the site I have noticed that the toilet blocks appear to be fairly free, I am getting the impression that the big wobbly box users are using their hotel quality bathrooms, it's early days yet so I can imagine things may change.
Now to the Eriba toilet practicalities.
No 2s in a toilet, when desperate I will use the toilet, the trick is to keep the slide closed and criss cross the pan with toilet paper. This keeps the pan stain free and bundles up the the unwanted little friend like a samosa.😊
Use cheap two layered toilet paper, the thick quilted stuff gets stuck like papermache inside the cassette.
If you use caravan toilet fluid it will mask the smell very effectively because it breaks down the bacteria, I use Elsan blue/pink which is excellent . If your using household disinfectant as I know some caravaners do then it's not going hide the smell of break down the effluent. I also tend to empty the cassette a bit more often.
I have been using the Eriba shower head with no issues, it has been mentioned before but I have the same kind of shower when I was overseas with the military when water was scarce. I place the curtain rail in place and stand with my back to the door a this is the tallest part of the bathroom and should fit the majority (this is where I have to come clean literally and tell you that I am 5'2" so it is a bit easier for me) , The internal bathroom 13L container has been filled with warm water. I wet myself down, turn off the shower. Lather up, turn on water and wash off soap, that's it done, it is surprising how little water you use. The curtain is then hung out of the window to dry, there was very little over spill of water on the wood furnature, not much more than having a good wash, we then used a sponge to dry the shower tray.
I think that we will have to change the way we use our Eribas so that we can enjoy our hobbies during the pandemic and avoid catching the virus, don't be embarrassed about using your toilet if you have one, it will also open up the door to more CL sites that don't have shower blocks.

.From msg #5............. Then a touch of brilliance came to my imagination. We have an AL old style porch awning which we could attach to the back of the van by the bathroom window. This has curtains so in theory we should be able to use it as a private shower and the small amount of water would drain on the hardstanding or we could try and stand in a bowl...................

I feel this is an excellent solution as not only does it give privacy but extra on site storage as well - for fridges, freezers, tables, chairs etc so you enter in your pj's and emerge dressed to kill. I did think a toilet tent may provide a suitable sized shower enclosure but using the porch gives more on-site options. I'd go that route first especially if you have the shower you can hang out the window.

Reminds me of the many personal shower enclosures we came across on Aires when touring around France in our motor home (sorry Randa) many moons ago.

Still not stopped raining yet in Ribble Valley - so porch awning idea not tried (just watched Match of the Day & noted sunshine elsewhere)

But also thanks for that graphic image PopTop, as this evening I had some tasty vegetable samosas as part of my tea - will I be able see them in the same light in the future? Particularly if I have a paratha or chapati on the same plate!

When we were still tenters I did treat Kath to a beautiful grey Kampa Portapotty thing for Xmas one year. Then for Valentines day I got her the matching grey cloth cover. She was not impressed by my romantic streak. But now it classes as real forward planning. As no 2s are banned in the Troll this could also be placed in the Porch Awning for emergency calls of nature. The inner can then be carried to the chemical disposal and we would not have to use the site facilities at all. Pure genius. He or she that produces the item also has to dispose & clean.

I have about as much chance of Kath going with that idea as I have of it stopping raining here in the immediate few days.

We don't have a problem with number twos. We are often off grid.

Open the blade, flush the toilet, a wet bowl is less likely to get skid marks. Generally put a couple of sheets of toilet paper across the bowl as well. Use thin toilet paper.
I empty our cassette on demand, when it's nearly full. Using the correct quantity of chemical in the cassette obviates any smell.

Finally, when emptying the cassette it may require one or two flushes with the hose to clear most of the remaining solids, don't shake the cassette too vigorously, you may dislodge the float system. I don't worry about being too clean until the last empty before we leave for home.

Incidentally, the pre-flush is something I have got in to the habit at home as well.

You reminded me of a friend who gave his wife a vacuum cleaner for xmas. She cried at the time (but it was tears of joy)

I fear that the reasoning behind buying Kath the stylish Kampa Porta Potty thingy may be misunderstood as something deeply sexist. Far from the truth........................

As we resumed tenting in our late 50s Ks appetite for going to the toilet on wet windy nights waned. When the children were young we always had a bucket within handy reach in case one of them was caught short in the night. I felt is was undignified to suggest that a lady coming to the end of her fifth decade should be expected to crouch over a simple bucket. Hence the purchase of the classy Kampa.commode

Sadly her enthusiasm for the present was to say the least minimal. The Valentine's Day purchase of the stylish cover was designed to stimulate said enthusiasm, but also failed dismally. As such the stylish commode remains in the loft to this day unchristened by human bare buttocks. Its only use has been for me to sit on fully clothed, whilst rummaging around our camping store in the loft to locate something to enhance our awning.

Only time will tell if, because of the ramifications of the threat of the virus, it becomes a valued possession for my beloved......................................

This is a link to the said Kampa Porta Potty thingy that K dismissed with utter disdain. Judge for yourself its utilitarian stylishness and romantic cachet.
