I agree and they are within their rights to announce a price increase which will be subject to 5% VAT just now but they will have to charge 20% on that price in six months time.

VAT on campsites

Lots of speculation in the press today about whether caravan sites will pass on the VAT reduction announced yesterday by Rishi Sunac.

Anyone visiting CMC sites in late July/August may be interested in their view today on the proposed VAT reduction -

"We welcome the UK Governments decision to reduce VAT on camping and are now looking at how this can be applied to members’ bookings. As soon as we have the full details from the Government we will make the necessary changes and inform members".

However be aware that CL's may operate below the VAT threshold.

Recently visited CMC site pay for your first 3 nights at normal VAT come back on Wednesday and pay for your last 2 nights at new VAT rate, can't be fairer than that.
A friend however had the total opposite at a private site they refused to knock off anything for the reduced VAT saying Covid had cost them enough, fair to say he wont be going back there again

I asked about the vat situation on a CL we have booked for September. They said they are not altering prices. I must admit on a £14 per night inc wc, shower and electrics I'm not going to complain. On a £30+ C&MC site I would however expect the vat reduction.

We booked a CMC site last night and there was a message on that seemed to say that the VAT would be knocked off when you arrived and paid.

Just been to Lower Wensleydale, North Berwick and now at Garlieston (all CMC sites) and all have given the 12.5 % discount. Garlieston is a find. Beautiful outlook across the bay, nice local pub a stone’s throw away and a chippie van on Friday night - bliss!

Glad to hear the chippy van is still going!
We are booked into Garlieston for a few nights in September. Had a pleasant time there in June 2018, booked June 2019 but had a heart attack, booked June 2020, but Covid happened, so really looking forward to getting back there eventually.

Also just found out the pub is doing takeaway fish and chips with the benefit of a pint while you wait!

A word of warning. The fish and chip van at Garlieston has impromptu nights off. You can still order from the pub but get in early. They have booked takeaway slots that fill up quickly.
