Eriba newbies

Hi all,

My wife and I, Liz and Alan, having succumbed to the Eriba following, yesterday drove down to Bournemouth and picked up a 5-year-old Troll 530 from AL.

Having thought about getting an Eriba for around 2 years now, we drove down to the South Coast 2 weeks ago to see the vans in the flesh, not intending to buy then. However, Eribas are rushing out of the showroom just now and we fell for the last 530 on-site, which wasn't even in the showroom but outside in the compound unprepped.

As I have never towed a caravan before we kept to the motorways back to Bristol and now have it on the drive to find out what everything does.
The tow car is a VW California at the moment so a nice stable drive.

I am sure I will be picking your collective brains over the next few months.

Alan

Welcome to the Forum Alan

The Troll 530 is a great Eriba. We got a 540GT from AL in 2016 and love it to death.

We were new to caravaning & towing but you soon get used to it. We were lucky when we got ours as there were spaces on a Caravan & Motorhome Club manoeuvring Course run locally. It wasn't cheap but worth the money (especially as there were people more clueless than me!)

Don't be afraid to ask daft questions as the old hands on the Forum have come across most things.

I'm sure that you will have many great adventures

Hi, we also have a California and thinking of going down the same path. What was the thought behind the Eriba, whilst having the California. The other option we are considering is something like a Hymer Free 600.

We had been thinking about getting an Eriba for around three years but hadn't done anything about it. The Cali is a great campervan...probably the best there is, but it doesn't have a loo.

Now we have hit our 70s, trips across a damp campsite in the middle of the night do not appeal. So something with a loo onboard was a must.

We use the Cali as an everyday drive and have owned it since late 2013 having done many trips away both in the UK and abroad. A bigger van was an option and we looked at the Hymercar, Grand Cali as well as Cartago and Westfalia vans at the shows and all were possible but parking these larger vans (we lived in a flat at the time) and using them as a daily drive was not really viable.

A visit to AL and hearing that Eribas were being sold sight unseen and as soon as anyone came in to look at them decided us and we put a deposit down.

Having now camped for 3 nights we think it is the right decision and the Cali will be replaced with a reasonable tow car that will also carry the 5 grand kids more easily.
I would like to replace it with a Beach, but that is a little contentious at the moment!

Alan

So no more dashing out onto the groundsheet under the canopy in your vest and pants to change into your day wear?
We've met many VW bus owners on our travels and had plenty of laughs with them especially regarding the about changes, bed to dinette, dinette to bed. You lot are a hardy bunch.
One memorable sight was at Lake Geneva when after the change about, dinette to bed, the male occupier sat in one of the folding chairs outside and fed his pipe with tobacco for a last few drags before turning in. Shortly afterwards, his wife joined him, fed her pipe and they had a good drag and a chat together.
How romantic
