Our amazing Hybrid tow car

This was us making a few last-minute checks before departing for a few days away from home.
VW Golf 1.4 tsi GTE / 204 bhp / 350 Nm / DSG transmission / 1.500kg tow limit.
Not too sure of the exact mpg as there are a few different driving modes, but on petrol
alone at least 35 mpg
Triton 410

Welcome Alan. I have the 1.5 version of your engine in my Audi A3, but obviously not the hybrid mix.
I also tow a Triton and have found if you keep the engine at just below peak [petrol] torque which on my manual is 1900rpm and about 53/54 mph then you can push 39/40 mpg on a run when towing. You should be able similar figures.
On a 2.5K tow around France last year with fully laden car and van we saw 33mpg, but I was then unaware of the engines sweet spot and was towing at 58/60 mph.

Looks a good pairing Alan.
This might be what the future looks like for all of us.
Have used Skoda Scouts with 150 BHP diesels to tow our Troll for a few years but yesterday I got an electronic message from Skoda with their latest UK range of cars and Scouts with diesel engines appear to be disappearing. It had their first hybrid model Octavia mentioned but with few actual details.
Enjoy your Triton.
Cheers

I have to mention that our last car was also a Golf,( petrol) and before that a VW Eos. All very good tow cars, but this Hybrid is in another league for engine and transmission management, comfort and economy. Oh, and our solar panels means that local trips are fuel-free.
Hybrid cars only pay 50% of road tax in the Netherlands, about £400 per year.

I'm unable to give any mpg figures towing as the trips so far have been local, involving a mixture of both solo and towing. I've not been recording.
However, I'm now keeping records. What I've so-far recorded driving solo and only in a hybrid mode, which has involved driving at max permissible speeds on motorways, A class roads, towns and cities is a very impressive 94.16 mpg. (All driven mainly on flat Dutch roads)
If at all possible in a few weeks time we should be doing a long haul trip into France, promise to record the fuel economy.
