.....especially in the UK.

Even the Sweeney are using them as undercover caravans

That's a blast from the past. I used to love the Sweeney in my late teens.

Did some odd job cleaning & driving at a mates dad's garage and got to drive one of these beasts & also a Capri 3.0 litre GTX (os something like that). Both cars frightened me to death as I normally drove my Lambretta TV 175 scooter. It wouldn't have noticed towing an Eriba

At 17 having just passed my driving test I borrowed my brother in laws 3 litre Capri. Only drove it about a quarter of a mile before returning it and thanking him nicely. I was absolutely terrified in it. Went on to buy a Ford Anglia, more my style then, sadly it didn’t fly (understood only by Harry Potter fans) 😂

Hi Julie

I can clearly remember that terrifying feeling with the Capri as you put your foot on the accelerator and you thought you were literally taking off.................not surprised that you returned it quickly. The Anglia was a smart car though at the time and the Police used to use them a lot as patrol cars sprayed light blue

The only thing that came near was a Triumph Herald Vitesse (?) that had a really powerful engine in a tiny light car. The lad whose Dad owned the garage wouldn't let me drive it as he said it was unsafe and then proceeded to crash it right along a Lake District dry stone wall. His Dad wasn't impressed having to send the garages tow truck to bring it back and neither was I being nearest to the wall. Thrilling teenage years!

Showing my age here.......
