Chocks/Levellers recommendations - sorry its a bit complicated!

Thanks so much for welcoming me back! I love the Facebook page, but not being so great on social media struggle with finding stuff on there. This is a great forum, and without this network not sure we would have been brave enough to buy our Puck L before Xmas! :)

To cut a long story short we have a lovely new to us Walker awning for our Puck L 2006. But those of you on the FB group kindly pointed out it didn't look right when we did a trial run of putting it up - just too baggy. Fortunately, Randa (Adrian?) worked out the problem, as we are putting it on the back there is not a high roof awning on the Puck L only one that is 15cm lower. We can't put it on the front as we have a fixed ominster sun awning (which we love). Randa said there was some fantastic expertise here for adding an awning, but having spoken to Jean at Randi she advised not doing this on the Puck L as she said it is different to all the rest of the Eribas and she didn't know if there would be reinforced steel at the back. (Incidentally, it was interesting to hear how the Puck L is one of a kind - apparently differnt in quite a few ways which is probably why sadly it was not economical to continue.)

But given all this, think the safest and cheapest bet is to by some chocks to raise the caravan up... My rather long winded question is whether you can recommend a product to raise the caravan by 15cm? Looking at buying a pair so on flat ground could lift both sides of the caravan up.

The ones looking at are the Milenco Quattro which has 4 steps - 4, 8, 12, and 16cm or the Milenco MGI Maxi T3 6, 12, 18 cm (both come in pairs)

We currently have a Milenco chock that goes to 11 cm. Rather than buying a new set, husband is keen to buy another one so we have a pair, and use these to raise the caravan by 11cm and then pull the sides of the awning out at an angle to reduce the baggyness (he used to be in teh boy scouts as a teenager...)

All food for thought... any other thoughts greatly appreciated!

Many thanks! Nicky

I'm not sure if you could realistically chock your van up by 150mm. It is not just the wheels but the legs you would have to provide the extra lift to.
I would expect that the eriba shell has steelwork on the opposite side to the door, unless Jandi know for sure that it does not. To locate then should be straightforward. Approximate location should be guaged from screws holding the door side higher ral. A VERY big magnet on the outside would help, followed by running your hand firmly against the fabric roof lining. I used this later method to locate the steel framework when fixing higher seconadry rails on previous vans.
Fixing of said rails was with Sikaflex and stainless screws. The Technical dept at Sikaflex said I did not need to use screws as the adhesive was strong enough.

My other thoughts relate to the sutability or use of a full awning on the back. We use a Caravanstore to give protection for bikes, clothes airer, and sometimes our second fridge. If you require someting fully weatherproof why not a good sized pup-tent, easier and quicker to errect and cheap.
If you need living space how about the inflatable Decathlon QUECHUA 6 Person Inflatable Awning Tent - Camping Shelter, https://www.decathlon.co.uk/la-air-base-...id_8561168.html

Hi Nicky and welcome back to the forum.
Just to go back to the discussion we had on Facebook regarding fitting a higher awning rail, the nice chap I had in mind on here is Colin (Eriba Motters) who has done it twice before. See this thread:- Fitting high level awning rail.
I'm sure Colin will be on shortly to reassure you that it can be done. I'm not sure if one of his vans was in fact a Puck L.
regards
Roger (Randa) (who is this Adrian bloke and Jean at Randi )

ps. See Colin has beaten me to it again.

Thanks Colin, very helpful :) We are going away soon so will see how we get on with the low level chocks and pinning out, but also look into the awning rail when we get back. The Decathalon awning looks good, but at the moment are in love with our Walker awning so see how it goes...Husband keeps saying it will be fine so I am sure it will be!

Again many thanks to you and Randa for your help - and all the others on FB what an amazing network!
NIcky :)

Thanks Roger - I am getting confused!!! Where did I get Adrian from....and Jean at Jandi... Oh dear I blame it on the heat!!

Just replied to Colin (hopefully got that name right as just replied to him!) to say we will experiment when away and then see about the awning later...

Hope you get a chance to get away this summer. I love seeing your photos from past travels!

Cheers Nicky
