Good morning
Our fold out aluminium heat shield has become detached from the glass hob cover - can anyone advise the type of glue to use please?
Many thanks
Bob

Araldite or any other 2 part epoxy resin. Clean area with meths and masking tape tightly around the area where you are working so any escess glue ends up on this and not where you do not need it. Mix until it forms a uniform colour the texture of snot,. Don't be tempted to wipe excess glue off when wet as it makes a mess. Leave it to go very stiff and cut through with a knife. When fully set lift the tape and you should be OK.

Same happened to us while in France and I bought a clear epoxy said to be good for glass - metal bonding and it has held firm for years.

Thanks Aaron. I’ve ordered some Gorilla 2 part epoxy now so I guess that should do the trick!

It's quite tricky to get the the shield attached in the correct place, do be careful. When I bought my Triton 6 years ago the heat shield had been re-glued but incorrectly positioned so that the glass lid didn't sit down properly. It eventually fell off again and I fixed it myself correctly this time.

Here's a quick sketch of mine that seems to work.

Hi,
Same happened to me with a three year old Eriba. I took the two part epoxy resin approach. The advice re taking care with alignment is very important.. Twelve years on the repair still holds good.

Thanks for the tips and warnings but job done now.
I took off the glass top and before I did anything else, I stuck masking tape around the old glue footprints before cleaning up. Using Gorilla 2 part epoxy I pulled off and glued one of the plastic feet and when this was set i trigged up the heat shield on the bench so it was level and true then glued the second foot.
Not a job I was looking forward to but it all went well.. Only time will tell if I was successful!,
Thanks again
Bob
PS the most difficult part of the job was trying to get a grip on the very shallow plastic ‘bolts’ that attach the glass to to the hinges.. I guess there is a special spanner like tool for this...?
