Hello all. Has anybody any experience of using 12v magnetic tail lights. I am thinking of buying a pair of these to use in an emergency if our original Hella tail lights pack in.

These are an example of the type I mean:

Not sure they would take to the dimpled surface of our van. Advice is appreciated as ever.

If it's aluminium they won't stick

They wouldn't stick anyway as they are magnetic and the bodywork skin is aluminium and not steel.

Both -

Bugger, I didn't take that fact into account at all!!

Basically, I need some sort of backup lighting system that doesn't involve hanging a trailer light board. Open to suggestions. Not changing the originals just yet btw.

Could you swap the magnets for suckers, or just a load of double sided foam sticky tape of the style that fixes your number plate>

Thanks Colin. The no. plate double sided foam tape is a good idea. Lights without magnets will probably be the way forward with this. The supply wires to each light might get in the way though. Anyway, deeper reading of magnetic light reviews on amazon, indicate they fall off occasionally. So another reason not to buy...apart from the eriba non magnetic aluminium body, spanner in the works thing. :)
