Novice Question - Tow Ball

Just had a witter tow bar fitted to our tow vehicle, and will be shortly picking up our first eriba - a 2009 Puck L 230 GT.

Question:- Do I need to remove the paint from the tow ball and take it back to bare metal before using it for the first time?

Many thanks

It's usually a good idea as the stabiliser will be less effective if your ball is shiny !
Like wise make sure the inside of the hitch is clean and grease free to avoid terrible sounding ( and when you first hear it and don't realise the cause extremely worrying) creaks and groans from the rear of your vehicle.

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply. I'll get the paint off and degrease everything!

I always carry a small spray can of brake cleaner and a strip of emery tape.
I cover the tow-ball cover when unhitching and when I next hitch up occasionally have to give the ball a light clean.
By the end of my journey it's usually creaking away but I believe this is due to the crap thrown out the exhaust.

Err hang on a minute.
Does your Puck L have a stabiliser?
If not, by all means clean off the paint but remember to apply a little grease, don't run it bone dry.
If there is a stabiliser then proceed as above.
Either way enjoy!
