5 stud wheels
Some very helpful information about tyre replacement in the previous thread I started. Many thanks for that. I have had wheels and spare replaced.
I have a question. Mine are 5 stud wheels on a Triton 430 from 1997 or thereabouts I believe. IMG_20200811_110422659_copy_600x800.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)
On the plate the miro is 900kg and mptlm 1000kg. Am I correct in thinking the chassis with 5 studs is actually capable of carrying 1200kg? I think that later Tritons have 1200kg as mptlm.
It would be good to have clarification on this. The tyres are rated to 1068kg so that would obviously limit my payload. But if I had a bit more to play with that would be nice.
Thought for the day - hmmm......
If the plate says 1000kg then that is your legal max regardless of what the van is capable of. If you ask Hymer then then can issue a new plate up to whatever the van is capable of (you need to pay for this though).
Stan, if you look under the axle you'll find Al-Ko's oval rating plate which, amongst other things, will show the axle load rating. This is the absolute rating which mustn't be exceeded.
Your brake drums are type 2050 (200mm dia x 50mm wide) with taper roller bearings - these are available with 4 or 5 studs so not always a reliable indication of the axle load.

The 4 and 5 stud wheels to axle rating is and never has been straight forward. Since about 2000 it has been reasonable to assume 4 stud = 1000kg and 5 stud = 1200kg on a UK van in particular. This has been my visual guide when seeing a van. This is for the axle but not always for the van. In France where driving licence regulations differ from UK it might have been that a new owner placed an order where the van was badged with a lower max weight than was possible so it would suit their licence. I seem to recall seeing French Tritons rated at 950kg when the axle actually could have taken 1200kg.
From 2018 onwards the 1200kg max has increased to 1300kg. I wonder if this is a reflection on more owners running motor movers and needing that increase to compensate for a 35kg mover and 20kg battery.

I do sometimes wonder what people pack in their vans. We have a 410 with a 1200kg axle fitted with a Reich Easydriver Pro mover. Axle weight with food, all our clothes for a week away, a gallon of water, two 4.5kg calor propane bottles, two chairs, barbecue, table etc and we top out at 1105kg plus a nose weight of 60kg. The awning (Kampa pop air) travels in the car boot, mainly to save humping the weight in and out of the van. Same goes for the large Eriba table on the rare occasions we use it, we usually just make do with the slatted table we carry in the van. I hate manhandling the weight of the Eriba table inside the van, it could do so much damage if you lost control of it.
