Does anyone have knowledge of what’s the best type of radio for when your in remote places. Am, fm , short wave or dab. Not quite sure what is still broadcast, weekend gone I was out of tv & phone signal which doesn’t bother me too much but occasionally it’s handy for news etc with all the going’s on. At home I have a portable dab radio & from years ago a very expensive Sony ultra compact radio which does all the old am mw fm and short wave but haven’t used the old old Sony in years.

It sounds as if you have the answer to your own question. Why not take both away with you and see which performs best.
We have a Pure Mini DAB that also has FM, along with the expensive model specific battery pack. This has always found a signal, although some DAB channels have not been good and we've resorted to FM. Very similar to car reception really.
The 3.5mm jack port is also useful as we plug in an MP3 music player if we've forgotten our JBL speaker.

I have small Roberts radio Classic buletune which has DAB and FM, it also has Bluetooth so I can play tunes from my phone.
DAB has worked in almost every site I have visited, a few years ago it was a bit sketchy, FM is always the fall back.
I find the best place to put the radio is on top of the wardrobe (there is also convenient socket on top of the wardrobe) near the canvas poptop, the signal doesn't have to fight its way through the aluminium skin.
When I go on holiday I like to pop my top!

One small addition to this discussion is I believe that there is no digital radio transmission in France (for example) so reliance on FM etc, might be the safest option if travelling abroad...

If you have a VPN you can listen to and watch UK TV and Radio in Europe without any problems on your Ipad / laptop. You can't always rely on getting a free wifi signal, we have a booster for this designed for Motorhomes, but you can usually pay for a good signal. Wifi is one of my requirements when booking as i have customers who never think that I may be away on holiday!!

When in France, my default setting is also to book sites with free wi-fi and I use my Motorhome iBoost to supply tablet and Mrs eribaMotters phone. This has a range of up to 200m. https://www.motorhomewifi.com/product/ib...ctional-system/ This way we can listen to Virgin Radio in the morning. In the UK I sometimes manage the free wi-fi for tablet and phone, but use the radio as radio.
Abroad we use a Snipe 2 Selfsat dish [expensive but excellent]. As well as TV down to the Dordogne this also gives us a lot of radio stations.

I tend to go particularly at the moment to cl sites which don't usually have Wi-Fi, i want to try and find out what i can install with a view to a router & aerial but with out a large contract for a sim. Like i said earlier i don't watch a lot of tv at least in summer months but winter remains to be seen on how much i can get away with covid & work. If i could make it work at a price and of course link my mobile phone, tv,& radio

Firstly I am not techie savy. I do not use a mobile phone and have no satellite TV at home.
I looked briefly into a 4G router through the Caravan & Motorhome Club. https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/membership...rs/EE-Car-WiFi/
I think it worked out that you could for £20 buy 6GB of data that lasted for 3 months once you started. You could then at the end of the 3 months repeat this. So if you camp for 6 months a year that's £40 for your internet and then start again with a new top-up the following year.
If you were streaming TV then I don't know how long this would last.
The lovely Mrs eribaMotters uses her mobile phone and data contract when we are away. About 1/2 the time we find we can get free wi-fi in the UK at CL's and independent sites so then plug in the booster.
For TV abroad it's the dish but in the UK it is an Avtex aerial https://www.avtex.co.uk/antenna/sth3000 linked to our 16" Avtex TV. [2nd hand with built in satellite tuner] The aerial has a built in amplifier that if attached to an Avtex TV is powered automatically. This has not let us down in the two years we have owned it.

I have the Avtex aerial & tv but on the two sites in question i couldn't get anything, first one, if i was allocated a pitch at one site of the site i could just get a signal with my homemade satellite setup but the other site had trees in the way and both sites are out in the sticks! and bothering on a one or two night stay to set up satellite compared to if i could have a say 6" compact aerial as a semi permanent fixation where you possibly just screw the aerial into a base plate? not sure but at that size compared to the size of the aerial in my 5 year old iPhone!

I've just been to Chichester C&CC site for a few days and couldn't get a very good fm signal without interference. I settled on my phone using Radio UK and a bluetooth speaker. Great sound and no interference.

unfortunately when i was away at one of the sites in question there wasn't even phone signal! I had my iPad for a little music but i would like to be able to get the news & sometimes just general info on local area on google. I think the way forward is as i said earlier a small possibly 6" aerial that would screw on to a fixed baseplate or something on suckers & wired into a router. The hard bit is doing it without a large monthly bill & choosing which model of aerial & router. No more crappy site Wi-Fi! (no Wi-Fi at all on the last cl sites) tablet, phone, maybe even firestick on tv if the signal was good enough? on your vpn

Please remember I'm dumb. If you bought a 4G router could you take the card out of your phone and put it into the router, then bluetooth to a tablet or laptop ?
How about this one:- https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/phones-bro...213295-pdt.html
