cutting table down or not?

I had wondered about trimming down a table for my 320. I wouldn't really want to trim the original because there's no going back. They just seem a big chunk of wood stuck in the middle of your seats and nowhere to put it particularly at night time. for just two people I'm sure we could manage with a slightly smaller table, its like most things in life, compromise. has any one trimmed one down & found anything secure to screw into regarding the centre core

This has been done by owners previously. Others have made a new table form a kitchen door and added a leg and edge trim that are readily available.
To me the more sensible approach would be to remove the leg and edge trim from your current table and fit them to a piece of 18mm thick plywood cut to the exact shape and size you want. When you eventually sell the van you could if needed to return it to original specification.

I've spent some time this week sorting the table issue. I've removed 10cm from the length of the original table, the reason being that at night when stored under the bed it used to stick out too far so the fridge wouldn't open. Annoying and not a design highlight!

If your table is the same as ours, it's hollow with a solid wood frame, has a cardboard core to add strength while being light and has melamine panels top and bottom. I used a jigsaw to cut the table and reused the original length of wood where the metal strip screws on. This needs glueing into the void after removing some cardboard core. It was all pretty straightforward.

I've also made another shorter table from 18mm plywood for use outside. Bought a Reimo adjustable leg and plastic strip for fixing onto van, both from eBay.
