Did you calculate the carbon footprint produced when generating the energy to wind the thing up?

I used to love these in the 60s.....does my memory serve me rightly that because these had no reverse gear that you could drive them on a motorbike licence......which meant that you could stay dry whilst you tootled along thereby impressing your smart mod girlfriend who didn't fancy getting wet on the back of a scooter.

Ah those were the days

That's correct Mike, one of my mates had a Reliant Robin without reverse. He never did get a car licence.Regarding impressing the girls I usually failed because all I had was a BSA 250cc motorbike. No wet weather gear(no money) and mostly no helmet.(It was not compulsory. This was 1961and the beehive hairdos that the girls had would end up at a rakish angle after a few miles.Oh how they loved it - not!

You would also need some pretty long mirror extenders !

with regard to the reverse, if you removed the arm from the gear shift that worked the reverse then you could drive it on a m/c licence

The Messerschmitt and Bond equivalent had no reverse gears but you could start the engine in reverse, so in effect it had a 4 or 3 speed reverse.

Hi Finwoody

As a Lambretta TV175 rider I was obviously much more safety conscious than you on your BSA 250..........

I used to wear a very dapper black beret (French style) that matched my long black leather coat (which I scrounged off a tall girlfriend) whilst fastening my helmet to the back of my rear chrome carrier. Style was all as I was a mod who was going to die before he got old (according to the Who)

Here I am with all sort of aches and pains in my late 60s........................

Such is life

That made me smile Mike, wearing your beret at a sexy angle plus that leather coat mmmm...wow the girls must have been in a frenzy. When I went to the local dances on the bike I used to borrow my Dad's British Rail overalls to put on over my C&A suit.Dad was over 6ft and me 5ft 7inchs therefore I had 5inch turnups on the overall trousers.I got strange looks from the girls as I put the overalls on in the car park prior to giving them a lift home. For some reason I rarely saw them again - can't think why.Now at 75 I'm past caring.( Still got an old Triumph Tiger Cub in the garage)

A Tiger Cub - that takes me back to the sixties.

A rugby mate of mine had one which he loved but sadly he was wiped out by a drunken driver at a junction and was never able to play again. Sad tale. He had a place at Loughborough University to study something to do with sport and he couldn't take it up. It turned out the drunken driver who ran away was a lad we both played football with & he never got over it either..
