Okay, either I am an idiot (very likely!) or I have bought a faulty one. When using this, on occasions, it switches itself off and beeps continuously with the display showing 'E 3'. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to return it?

Don't know about the Aldi hob Lesley, but on ours there are three settings once the hob button is switched on.
The first is the wattage control, then second is the temperature and the third is the timer which will switch the power off when the time set is exhausted. (all 3 settings are operated from one button).
Perhaps your Aldi one is similar and that the time setting has exhausted?

Perhaps your pan is not completely flat bottomed and is not making the correct connection ?
This happened with our previous one until we changed our pan.

Yes, right type of pan. I am silly, but not *that* silly!!

I phoned the helpline and they just said take it back! He read some lines from the instruction booklet troubleshooting guide (which I had obviously read already) and just said its faulty but didn't seem to know why. So I'll take it back and see if they have any left.
