Hi. I am looking for an awning for a 1994 Eriba familia 310. Could I get one fitted to the caravan that rolls up inside or do I get one which I connect myself and stow away. Are they both options. Anyone have one for sale?

Andy,
you can go in various directions but the main question is what do you exactly need or want the awning for? Are you after something for long or short stays?
Do you plan to have people sleep outside? When we can finally travel again do you plan long hot continental trips? Do you just need a shade to keep sun or rain off the door side? Would a lightweight low campervan type awning be acceptable? Answer these and the advice/choice is a lot easier.

A 2.5m Isabella Shadow is worth considering, lightweight and quick to put up it copes well with sun and if you either pull the centre down into a v or add another pole to raise the centre sheds water well. Our favourite is the Fiamma Caravanstore. You would need a 225, which has a bag length of 236cm. The straight run on your awning track is about 249cm. This can be left in when travelling, you unzip the bag, roll out the canopy and after dropping the legs fold a couple of roof braces back. It is totally water resistant and can be put away wet. the problem is the bag does foul the door when opening. We run with one of these permanently on the reverse of the van to protect bikes, clothes rail, second fridge etc.
Another option is the Sunncamp Swift. This is a lightweight open fronted "tube" and more suitable if you know the weather is going to be poor. You can now get a version of this with a zip up front and would be my choice if I was buying now to supplement our Isabella.
For short breaks and when away last summer touring across 6 sites over 3 1/2 weeks we used the Shadow and the Sunncamp.
For a long pitch we use a blow up awning. The Kampa [290 model for you] is a good compromise if a bit of a heavy to get into the track
If you se the search facility lots of photos should come up, but these should help for a start.

Hi Andy
As ever good advice from Colin..........

We are a bit like Colin and have different ones depending on where & what we're doing. Ours is a Troll so sizes are different to what yours would be.

Love the Shadow (the first photo) as it goes up in 5 minutes. It gives good shade when hot an gives some shelter from the rain - if you move your chairs around. Sometimes use a wind break with it to give a bit of extra protection. Randa & his wife have made their own extra cover to act as a side , and it looks really good.

If we are going away for a longer stay we also have a Kampa Pop Air - see Colin's last photo. As Colin says it's a bit heavy to put up but you get the hang of it. This is good in windy weather. Our's is an original model and it had some quirks - they brought a revised model out and it is far better.

Following Colin's suggestion we also got a SunnCamp Vario ( a version of the Swift ) which was designed for campervans but works well on the Eriba's. This is very much like Colin's in the second photo but it is an awning instead of a canopy. In hot weather the front zips out to create a canopy if you want. This is lightweight & easy to put up. SunnCamp don't recommend it for use in heavy winds but it is more robust than it seems. I will try to load a photo of it.

Think the best advice with awnings is don't rush into anything. Have a good look at everything available. Then factor in exactly what you need it for. There is loads of advice on the Furum about awnings & canopies.

Good luck

MikeT

Hi Colin, our new to us Triton 420 came with a caravanstore 255 in situ.
We are thinking of selling it because we prefer the closed in type awnings (we have the Sunncamp)
But also we have concerns about the pressure on the awning rail having the caravanstore attached.
Have you noticed any movement on your awning rail? We wonder about screws starting to loosen with
the weight dragging on them, creating slight movement?
Surely the rail wasn’t designed to carry such weight especially when travelling.
Thanks
Julia

Julia, we have since 2003 permanently travelled with a Caravanstore in the awning rail. For the first 4 years it was on the door side. It was then on the door side on a higher rail bonded to the roof and for the last 10/12 years it has been on the opposite [bathroom] side. Here it offers excellent protection for bikes, clothes airer, 2nd fridge if the sun is on the door side etc. Our rail is fine with no movement.
It is not used on the door side. Here we use an Isabella Shadow for shade, a Vango Siesta as a quick small awning or a Kampa Pop-Air for long stays.

Confused! did someone use the phrase "shade from the sun" and "UK" in the same sentence?
