Hello Eriba people! After many years of tents, caravans and motorhomes we've plumped for a new Triton 540gt. It's basically the same layout as our caravans and motorhomes and similar levels of equipment as our 1st motorhome ie no oven, no hot water which is what we want. We are looking forward to cooking new recipes with a Remoska again. We've opted for a solar panel as motorhome no2 had one and we found it indispensable. We full timed in MH no2 for a while but found the size an issue so wanted something smaller than a "normal" caravan for towing but that we can leave on a pitch and use the car instead. The Eriba is different than any of these in one way, the lift up roof. Once when camping on the Isle of Mull a very new Swiss VW California arrived but they left the roof up overnight. By morning the roof was split across ways and had to be held down with a strop, probably all the way to Switzerland. My question is at what point do Eriba owners drop the roof? I'm not thinking of cold but of wind. Would I be over cautious to drop it in anything less that a gale?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

I've owned 4 Eriba's starting back in 2003. I can only recall a few nights when we've slept with the roof down. Once was due to cold, but I soon warmed up so it went back up. A couple of times it was due to wind, but it was the noise that made us lower it, not the fear of damage.

Noise, that's one to remember. Luckily I wear earplugs because someone else snores! I'll sleep little better after reading your reply. Thanks for that.

I understand where you are coming from. I bought a box of 100 pairs of Uvex com4 fit some years ago. They are excellent, lasting about a month before I need to use a fresh pair. https://www.zoomhealth.co.uk/uvex-com4-fit-earplugs/

Hi Nanook and welcome to Eribafolk
Sorry, but I could resist it no longer. Which direction do you live from the Watford Gap? I'm just tickled by your Forum name.

Hi Randa. We're in sunny Lincolnshire but the name comes from when we toured Norway and Iceland in a Landrover Discovery . We took the back seats out and put sleeping boxes in, so even a basic Troll is luxury! I was nicknamed Nanook by my wonderful wifey after Nanook of the North. Unfortunately I nicknamed her The Moose, which has stuck. I think she likes it, I hope so after 23 yrs🤔

I too remember Nanook of the North. 👍
When we took the Eriba to Scandinavia we made a detour to visit Mrs R's Facebook friend in Stockholm.
She talked about some of her experiences with the moose (mooses, miice?? 😃). They are not to be messed with.

We put the roof down if it's very windy and the noise would keep me awake - Yann wears earplugs- , or if there's someone having a noisy evening....the van isn't hermetic so you won't suffocate! ......as some people seem to think

Hello there😊 I do enjoy listening to the wind and the sea, to the point I spend half the night doing so and don't sleep! So it's not just Mrs Moose that I wear earplugs for. 😴

in 13 years of Eribaing (is that a word?) we’ve only put the roof down on 4 occasions. It did drop down once (Boxing Day) of it’s own accord due to the weight of snow on the roof. Went with a bang and woke us up, we left it down until the morning. No we’re not hardy adventurers, it was spare bedroom on the drive due to the house being full of kids who came home for Christmas.

Ah, Lancashire, my home county 👍 Yes, I'm a pie eater. I'm glad you're buying another because since we ordered the Troll all I seem to have read is bathroom and cupboard doors falling off which does set the quality alarm bells ringing so it's nice that someone is coming back for a new model. Having said that, we did own a Landrover and loved it despite it having Landrover build quality.
