Awning rail advice please

So, if I was thinking of fitting a higher awning rail on my Troll (I’m not but himself is) what size is the awning rail? I’ve read somewhere that there are different sizes of Kador strip which would suggest that there are different sizes of rail. Secondly, where do you buy it? Is it a dealer only job, can they send a 3m length through the mail, does it roll? Thirdly (if that was all one question) how do you fix it, can it just be glued for occasional use of a Caravanstore or does it need drilling? Neil (himself) thinks he could do this with assistance if it’s a gluing job, if it needs drilling I may intervene and go back to plan A which is get a professional to do it.

No, you’ve missed the point.😁 We need a higher awning rail as the bag fouls the door, trapping us in the van. When we had our first Eriba which was a PuckL I didn’t understand a lot of people’s issues with Eribas. It had a full length elevating roof so no banged heads, it had a higher awning rail so no bag issues, the cooker was away from the seats so no cooking mess. The Eriba kiss came as a nasty shock when we got a bigger Eriba.
On the subject of tall husbands, they have their uses, things in top cupboards can be easily retrieved. Plus I get advance warning of rain 😂

Tall husbands are also useful in floods and I'm given to understand that short husbands are caused by excess seaweed in the diet.

As to madam's query, I believe that Rose Awnings fit Omnistor cassette awnings to Eriba roofs with an adhesive of some sort and no bolts etc. Quite how successful that is and what they use I have no idea. Maybe a chat with RA will get some definitive advice straight from the Dorset pony, as it were.

I do recall having a Caravanstore on one of our 540's and it rubbed a mark on the top of the offside lounge window and took a patch of paint finish off just forward of the top of the doorframe. IIRC there was an Ancient Eribarites tip to use a bent teaspoon or random item of cutlery to fit in one of those awning loops and that held the bag up out of the way.

The thought occurs that if you attach the bag to the curve of the roof it will constantly lie on the gel coat and rub it. Though a tall husband could always run alongside and hold the bag off the roof.

Neil if you use the search I've done this on two vans. Do not go any higher than 100mm above your existing rail.

Thanks Andy and Colin for the advice. So that’s the fixing sorted, do I assume that the actual rail is a generic thing rather than Eriba specific? If that is the case hopefully I can find someone local to supply.

Cancel that question, Caravanstores fit on all vans so obviously the rail is not Eriba specific. Sorry, bear of little brain 🐻🤔

I think if you need the keep the rail in a straight line as bending it around the curve of an Eriba would open up the gap on the rail and the awning may come out.

similar to early Kampa awning problems

As an example of above regarding the bend. On a previous Troll the additional rail I fitted allowed me to fit a 280 Caravanstore, but I had to trim the bag awning chord down as the track length was less than 280cm due to the roof curve.
