Replacing cushions with memory foam?

Hi all,
We’ve just bought Dora (2004 225 GT Puck L) and had our first trip out in her. She’s a fantastic little thing and exactly what we were looking for with regards to size, towing and general fun. We do like our comforts however and are finding the bed a little firm, even with a slim mattress topper. Has anyone replaced the cushions with a full thickness memory foam mattress, cut down and covered to suit?

Appreciate we’re probably being super picky, but am intrigued as to others do with the firm cushions? Also, when trying to decide what to get, we saw the the Go-pods come with memory foam cushions.

Thanks,

Andy & Rachel

Hi Andy, we have 1999 triton with bed made up at night from seat and back cushions, I use a thin duvet style mattress topper on top of these just to even out the ridges, the bed is firm but we find it very comfortable, mind you both of us find memory foam too soft and too hot to sleep on. Having said that I would have thought it would be a pretty easy solution to do as you suggest to cut and cover a memory foam mattress to suit you. An electric carving knife is top notch tool for cutting foam so time for a rummage in the gadget cupboard in the kitchen.

We replaced our Mattress with Reflex foam from here, they also do memory foam, all cut to size and shape, we found them very good, there are plenty of others.

We found our beds a little hard to sleep on, but as we don't have a fixed bed in our Troll 530, didn't want to have to store memory foam toppers during the day. We resolved this by cutting the toppers to size and reupholstering all the cushions with the topper included. We left the original covers on underneath. This solved the problem of memory foam being too hot to sleep on when you are in warmer places than UK. After about 8 years the toppers had worked their way around the cushions a bit, but it was relatively easy to take the covers off (only the big rear bed sections are stapled to boards), wash the material and reassemble.

We just throw a spare duvet on top to keep the draughts out.

Thanks all. I think we’re just used to our creature comforts. I do like the idea of cutting the toppers to size and reupholstering over the top. Will check with the boss!
Thanks again, Andy

Yes, I think that's a good idea, I don't need to do it for the Eriba but the cushions in the conservatory are due a makeover
