I was pondering on a new Triton 420 and happened upon an ad for Highbridge which said they had one in stock, though no pics.
Then I looked at the spec.
The standard Triton empty comes off the line at 841kg but by the time they've added allowances for gas and water on board it has a MIRO of 880kg. If you knock that back a bit by having just one 6kg gas cylinder and a couple of kg of toilet cassette water, then a realistic MIRO, as a starting point is about 860kg.
Then they've added stuff and seem to have ticked virtually every box on the options list:
GT Pack 42kg
Spare wheel 22kg
Sprung seating 10kg
Wind-out awning 28kg
Ultraheat 2kg
Multi function bed 5kg
Carpet 12kg
Gas/electric boiler 8kg
30L fresh tank 6kg
Shower 3kg
Weight upgrade 10kg
And I'd add a mover too 27kg
Total 'extras' 205kg
That puts an 860kg van up to 1,065kg before anybody's loaded a sock or teaspoon.
It's already 65kg over it's initial MTPLM, so it's a good thing that it was upgraded.
Our average payload is somewhere around 110kg, so adding that means the total weight will be around 1,175kg, so you can also see why they offer a 1,300kg upgrade, as an alternative to the 1,200kg one.
I just wonder how many buyers, seeing the headline weights of 841kg/1,000kg will realise they're actually buying something at 1,065kg/1300kg.
Then, of couse there's the price of £19,800 inc VAT for a base 420. Highbridge prices for their 420 is £27,115, and add my mover and you're talking £28,615 or so. A full £8,8815 (45%) more than the base price.

We have a 420 GT with all the kit mentioned (other than a wind out awning) and the 1200kg upgrade. If I start worry to about heavy stuff (eg awning) I put it in the back of the car. I haven’t visited a weighbridge but all seems ok so far🤞
In theory, without the awning and my choice of mover, the weight before personal payload becomes1010kg. However if you've had the factory fit, truly eye wateringly expensive, mover fitted, it brings that back to 1043kg, which with our personal payload makes a loaded weight of 1152kg, just 48kg below your 1200kg MTPLM.
Obviously what your van weighs depends on your personal payload and what your van actually weighed when empty because they often surprise and actually weigh more than they're supposed to, but the MTPLM is fixed, hence you have less available payload. A weighbridge visit at least sets a baseline.

The silver sides weight of 20kg is included in the GT Pack weight of 42kg Colin.
It's interesting that if you individually specify all the GT Pack items bar the silver sides you only save about £200 and on that basis, why would you not opt for the GT Pack? Obviously if you don't spec some of the GT Pack items then you save more. I'm not all that keen on the silver overall and much prefer the 60th Edition externals, though the white internals are a tad cold and grim for my taste.
Maybe Hymer should allow more mix and match. Rockabilly external with standard internal, white standard external with white 60th internal. There's an awful lot of potential mixes there.

In June 2016 I ordered my 430. The 60th edition was available in Europe but not the UK. It was however due to be released in the UK. I asked for one and was told no. By the time I collected my 430 in mid Feb 2017 the 60th edition was on show in the UK.
Hymer did give a flying & & & & about the customer so I would not hold out any hope on a mix and match order.

I see from the 2021 accessories/parts brochure that they now offer chrome hubcaps, which do look nice on the RaB they illustrate. I wonder if what they look like on the white dimple or GT silver. Personally I'm not keen on the current alloys or the previous generation's, I much prefer the ones fitted in the 2000's.
They're also offering a fitted winter cover, which looks as if it's gusseted around the poptop.

My 2015 Familia 320 was nudging just over the 900kg MTPLM with the GT package, motor mover and then with the load added. I paid €89 to Hymer to have it replated to 1050kg as the axle is already rated for the van.
I've wondered about their weight upgrades because they currently charge £385 whatever van and whichever increase and each one is classified as weighing 10kg more. So a 100kg upgrade only yields an extra 90kg in payload and a 200kg upgrade yields 190kg payload increase.
I remember, back a while, they offered really large increases that were expensive because they involved a whole different axle.

One of my WWB's was a 2012 Bailey Pegasus Rimini (penance due I know) it's standard fit out was with cushions across the front. If you wanted a central chest it was extra and weighed an additional 13.5kg. Not only that but the MTPLM was around 1490kg and the axle limit was 1500kg, so no chance of a weight upgrade. IIRC the payload was about 156kg, but mine had the chest, so that reduced it to about 143kg, then the battery took it down to 120kg and the mover to 93kg or so. As said, our regular payload is about 110kg, so we'd be about 20kg over limit. That's one reason I took it to a site where it was parked in a compound and brought out and levelled for us on a pitch whenever we wanted to use it.

My 2018 540GT is rated at 1300kg and I've been kicking myself ever since buying it that I didn't specify the 1400kg upgrade.
I recently contacted Hymer about upgrading it now and here is the reply -
We are pleased to inform you that it is possible to increase the load to 1,400 kg with a technical modification.
The scope of the technical modification can be obtained from AL-KO, who will also carry out the conversion if required.
For the consultation with AL-KO, please quote the following drawing numbers:
Chassis drawing number for the 1,300 kg delivered ex works: 142 5953
Chassis drawing number for the 1,400 kg load increase: 170 1002
Please also enquire about the tyres that will be required after the load has been increased.
According to our information the tyres 185 R 14C 102L should be valid. Please have this checked again by AL-KO.
The contact details of AL-KO can be found at: https://www.al-ko.com/de
If you are interested in having the load increased, we will be happy to issue a certificate of no objection and a new type plate.
The costs for this amount to 200€ (for shipment abroad).
Please state your billing and delivery address when ordering.
Finally, here is a brief overview of the steps that are necessary for an upgrade:
1.) Consultation appointment at AL-KO
2.) Request for a clearance certificate and a new type plate from us.
3.) Appointment at AL-KO for conversion
4.) Acceptance of the upgrade at the TÜV (German Technical Inspection Authority)
5.) Entry of the new weight in the vehicle registration certificate at the registration office
I have contacted a local Alko service centre who said they will look into what is involved in the upgrade (brakes? torsion rubbers?) but I'm not confident in getting a quick, if indeed any, response. On the main Alko UK website there is a contact link but it doesn't go anywhere! There is no telephone number listed. I also filled in the German Alko contact form but have had no reply.
Who would have thunk it would be so difficult to spend money with these people?

I did a quick calculation on a 2021 540 the other day.
With battery, GT Pack and a few other bits it came to 1,120kg, plus our normal 110kg personal payload that comes out at 1,230kg and the 2021 standard MTPLM is 1,300kg, so a 70kg margin which I'd be happy with. However if you're loading on bikes, awning, etc, then it could get v close, if not over the limit.
