Newbie towing questions

Hi peeps.
Just joined today.
I am looking to buy an Eriba puck L 230 and wondered if anyone on here tows using a mini. Caravan weight is 690kg.
I love minis and any other car would be a huge compromise but I am finding it hard to get decent info off the net. Mini proved useless too..
Thanks!
DZ

This site https://towcar.info/GB/ and also the Caravan Club matching service were recommended to us when trying to match tow car to Eriba. Both have limitations and we found information needed to be checked but it was a good place to start.

I have a Cooper S convertible which you can't put a towbar on so the plan is to buy whichever one I need to do the towing I would love to avoid the countryman but will go there if that's the only option.

So... from my research, towing capacities increased significantly after 2015 . No idea what the changes were. A 2015 clubman (both 1.6 and 2.0) has a towing limit of 1300kg which is significantly lower than the 690kg our target Eriba weigh.
As I said, we are complete novices to the towing world so I am really looking for advice on how I could be mis reading this info or overlooking possible problems.
Thanks again,
DZ

It would be really good to know which Model Year Puck L you have as the 2008 Hymer/Eriba brochure lists the 230 as having a MIRO of 610kg and a payload of 140kg, giving an MTPLM of 750kg. As 140kg isn't that much, it's likely you'll normally be running at around the MTPLM figure.
There are so many variants of the Mini that it's difficult to suggest just one and as you've already discovered there are a number that aren't homologated to tow. Most, if not all Minis will be capable of pulling 750kg or thereabouts, so it's probably best just to look at the ones you prefer and checking that they are allowed to tow.

The 690kg came off the van plate. It's a 2005 L 230.
Well, at least it looks possible 🙂
Interesting
The 2005 Hymer price lists has the MIRO of a 230 at 650kg with a standard payload of 100kg, giving an MTPLM of 750kg and the option of a 200kg payload, giving an MTPLM of 850kg. The actual empty weight i.e without allowance for gas cylinders is given as 620kg. So I'm not sure where the plated 690kg has come from?
Having said that the 230 and 225 Puck L's ran in tandem in 2005 and are given the same weights in the price list, but the 230 was a new layout that year and the weights tie in to the 2004 225 model. I wonder if when they actually built the 230 they realised it weighed more.
Anyway, it's not the empty/MIRO weight that's important, but the MTPLM is because it's likely that's what the van will weigh when in use.
