Downsized Dinette Table

Hi everyone. We decided to downsize our dinette table to give us a bit more room for lounging.
We bought the fixings from Obelink, including the leg that folds flat.
We bought the table top from the local DIY store here in the NL. It is called Gamma, and they can make tabletops to your dimensions, including curved corners, etc, to the wood of your choice from a fixed list. It took them 4 weeks to make the tabletop.
We (other half 😆) oiled the table and fitted the fixings.
I think it looks fabulous!
Here are the pictures:

Original table was 65x92, new table is 50x80
We chose Birch wood, at 18mm thickness to keep it lightweight
The oil is transparent.
The wood cost about €70

Can the new table still be used as a bed base?

I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon

I wouldn't advise that Andy. That is 18mm thick timber and not plywood. If you knelt on it then a crack along the grain could easily occur.

We wouldn’t use the new table as a bed base. I’m sure it would be too small, size wise and strength wise
We still have the old one if we sell, but we don’t need two beds.
We’ve never even tried setting the dinette up as a bed, actually. Not necessary for us. We sleep in the fixed bed, and dog sleeps either with us, or in his bed under the table
