Is it worth the extra weight - we don’t have a motor mover and because we don’t have a toilet unlikely to want to wild camp anywhere. The fridge can run on gas and I suspect a solar panel is lightrer

The solar panel only provides power when the sun is shining (and then at varying levels) :)
If you need 12V power of any sort you'll need a battery (because an unregulated solar panel provides a varying voltage and current depending on the suns intensity) :)

it's unlikely its a 240Vac powered pump (that the EHU would power directly) although technically possible: more likely it's a 12V dc pump so yes you'd need the battery in that case
Maybe another member can advise if 240V ac pumps are ever fitted? - I wouldnt have thought so for safety reasons

I removed the battery from my previous Eriba as I wanted a greater payload. A while later I replaced the halogen bulbs with leds and had a slight flicker issue. The 12v side of the Eriba electrics does not have a smooth output and can give these issues. I then fitted a small Yuasa battery, 7 amp I think. These are commonly used in emergency lighting circuits and did a perfect job of smoothing the current at very little weight and financial cost. With the low current draw of my leds I could also have in theory been fine on lights for a weekend without hook up. I held the battery into place by cutting a piece of ply to fit snugly around it and dropped this into the original battery holder.

Colin, You can get round the "flicker" problem by fitting AC/DC LED's.
No you don't need a battery for 12v, my Troll has never had one and the 12v lights and pump work fine as does the fridge light and fans.

I used the AC/DC leds but believe that when using one led light the current draw was below the minimum output of the factory transformer set-up. With two or more lights on I had no problems. I was also about to run a small tv on 12v and had been warned that some tv's did not take kindly to the rough output, hence another reason for the small battery.

Can i simply replace the existing large battery with the smaller 7amp? Like changing a bulb, or do I need to add something else?
As in disconnect the + and. - and slot a smaller battery in?

Yes, just a simple replacement. If you look in the photos you will see I ran two leads from the battery terminal clamps to my new battery. I then fixed the old terminal claps in place so they could not move about.
I needed to get a couple of crimp/push on fittings for the new battery terminals and I fitted an in-line fuse on each lead. I cannot remember what rating these were though.
