230 spare wheel

I've been looking to trade up in my old age from a '96 Puck L 120 to a Puck L 230. Having seen a few 230's, one thing irritated me a great deal.
Eriba rightly prides itself on ergonomic design and sleek looks, so I was truly appalled by the ham-fisted. last minute, bodge-job incorporation of the spare wheel INSIDE a caravan where space is at a premium; really a 5 year-old could have done better. Frankly, the boxing intruding into the floor space is crap! (Only made worse by some models lacking side locker access).
Why can't the spare go in a trap under the rear as on my 120?
This would move the spare from front to rear and alter weight distribution slightly, but is this significant?
My intention would to retro fit a trap. Surely someone has done this already?

You've probably hit the nail on the head when you mention weight distribution.

The PuckL is the only Eriba Touring with a kitchen across the rear of the van and I would suspect that the weight of the fridge, the sink, any water containers etc already make the van back heavy.

We have a Puck L 225GT which also had the spare wheel under the seat at the front. We didn't like the intrusion into the floor space and needed the underseat storage for something else. We've removed the spare wheel and put this in the boot of our car whilst towing. Once we've arrived, we take it out and lock it outside, around one of the wheels, pushed under the van out of the way. It seems to have helped slightly as our nose weight was a little high, and now acts as a separate security device, in addition to our wheel clamp.

We removed the boxed out section and replaced with a flat panel, inline with the rest of the seating edge.

Hope that helps.

Andy

Good point, though my L120 has it caged under the rear.

I've never heard of a L120, is that what the older Pucks are called ?

Agreed. Stepping in, unhitched and unjacked could be dramatic.

By L120, I mean the smallest of the Puck 1996 touring range.

I assume you know the 'L' stands for 'Langschläfer' or long/lengthways sleeper?
