Can't get insurance for 26yr old Triton - thoughts?

Hi, seems that our 'newbie to us' is too old for insurance - have others found the same? Tried the 3 usual companies...
Looking through forum, suggestion is they don't get stolen so maybe no need for insurance?
It's stored on drive at end of dead end road and is awkward to get on/off drive (motor mover on list!), plus have wheel clamp and hitch lock and may add a chain to fixed point...so hopefully safe at home...

Obviously the clamp and hitch lock will come with us when on road...

So probably main concern is damage when on road towing...but I believe car insurance covers this...

Welcome to the forum and I'm sure you will get cover sorted out. I'd try a broker such as Cover4Caravans or one of the web comparison sites instead of one of the dependant companies.

I would've thought the club insurance arms would cover the van.

Caravan insurance covers fire, theft and damage (obvs depending on policy terms).

Breakdown cover for a caravans virtually always includes the car too and you need to be v careful about any restrictions that apply. That's why we always use the CMC's Green Flag cover as that's built for caravanners, not just an add-on to car cover.

Hopefully it never happens but insurance is invaluable because of the road risk. Some drivers are idiots and manage to hit a caravan despite it being white and fairly obvious. We lost our Triton in an accident we didn’t cause and without insurance we wouldn’t have been able to replace it. That to me is a far greater risk than theft.

Car insurance only covers 3'rd party claims against you to make you road legal.

If you damage it you pay for it. If someone else damages it you are on your own and have to claim against the 3'rd party yourself.

Hi Kate and welcome to Eribafolk. We are with Cover4Caravans. Ours is 22 years old. 26 is not that old for an Eriba so there must be someone out there who'll insure her for you.
