None main dealer service recommendation for North West

Our Troll 540 is now out of Hymer Warranty period. We have used ALV at Tebay for service and have been happy enough with them (Even though the owner Mike always giving me gentle grief for not buying from them!)

However I am not sure I want to pay main dealer service prices now that I am not tied into a warranty conditions .It is usually about this time that I book an August service with ALV so it is on my mind.

Does anyone in the North West get their van serviced by other than a main dealer and how happy have you bean? We are based in Clitheroe. Could anyone recommend someone?

Hi, We're not in your area but have used mobile engineer in the past on our previous Triton when that didn't need Hymer water ingress certificate.

You'll find someone local here

Mike, although Red Lion of Southport are a main Eriba dealer the prices are very good. We paid £180 + vat = £216. This included the Hymer water ingress.

I'm more than happy to second Old Rocker's recommendation.

John England is a great guy and an Eriba enthusiast/specialist. You won't find better.

John has an excellent reputation, but I seem to recall he was slowing down on the work he was taking on. I'm sure he will be along soon and let us know.

My Familia is also now out of the 6 year warranty dealership servicing remit. My main bugbear was taking my van for a 60 mile round trip to a dealership, leaving it there then picking it up the following week. When I had my Puck I use to have it serviced on my drive by the Approved workshop scheme, I will use them again this year for my Familia.

At 60 miles return you were lucky [Monty Python note there] I previously had to do Merseyside to Nottingham, return trip up to 6 hrs driving in February wind, rain and once snow. One year they had not bought the correct warranty parts in and asked if I could come back a fortnight later to collect van. I refused and they had to return the van for me when it was ready.

That was a drag Colin, would it have been closer to use their Huddersfield branch?

I did consider that, but the service contract I had with Lowdhams of Nottingham did not enable me to use Lowdhams of Huddersfield. When you read the small print the contract was not with Lowdhams but with the company that issued the contract. Even though Huddersfield is closer the travel time is not a lot shorter.

I hope John is still working Colin he really went out of his way to help when I was having trouble with my van and his help and information for members on this forum over the years has been incredible.
I haven’t seen many comments or help from him following an awful post on a Eriba Facebook site by a lady Eriba owner last year.

John is still about. I just checked his profile and he was last online:- "Fri Feb 11, 2022 7:47 pm" and offering his usual sound advice on:- "Sat Feb 05, 2022 3:10 pm"

Yes, I seem to remember that there was a one off comment by someone who just couldn't be satisfied and became an impossible customer to please. There were dozens of complimentary comments that soon nullified that one comment.
As far as I am aware John is still active and is considered to be the best in the land by both Eribafolk Forum and Eribafolk Facebook members as well as the several other Eriba Groups that sing his phrases.

Thank you for all your responses to this post - I missed picking up on them as we were away celebrating my 70th.

Lots to think about here. We don't mind the drive to Tebay from Clitheroe to get to ALV - it is quite pleasant. but it is justifying the cost as we get deeper into our pensionable years.

Our neighbour with a BWB uses a mobile service engineer. I will talk to Tom to see how happy he is and if his man can do Eribas..

I seem to remember someone saying a while ago that JohnE was cutting back the area he worked in, and that Clitheroe would be well outside this.

Next service is not due until August so we have a bit of time to think further.

Cheers
MikeT
