Most motorhome owners are now going back to steering wheel locks - my friends with a brand new McLouis have certainly done so, plus tracker. I have a tracker on my Triton which is excellent and very cheap, really. The tracker (a Rewire DB2) cost me £30 on Amazon and I pay an annual charge of £59.99 for the tracking service. I can see where my van is at any time and it gives me mileages travelled and, the really useful one, battery voltage, so i can go and swap out the battery in storage when it needs it. It also sends me text alerts if it moves from its current location. And it gets me an insurance discount.

Here's a screenshot of the app (I keep the page permanently open in my computer's browser and just click on refresh to get the latest data). I have removed identify names just to be safe.. There's also an app which i have on my phone...

Talking to someone recently who had a steering lock on their camper, the thief just cut a small section of the steering wheel out (much softer than the lock) and slipped the lock off. No idea what type the lock was.The camper was recovered sometime later. We had a snap off steering wheel on our last camper but modern steering wheels are far more complicated to do that with.

Basically I think if they are determined to have your property, whatever it is, the thieving scrotes will take it. You can put deterrents in their way but you can’t stop a determined thief.

It's not just a question of cost, but the hoops you're made to jump through with these gadgets. We have no requirements like wheel locks. We use a hitch lock but that's our choice.

Hi, we’re picking up a new 530 with hub caps tommorow. First Eriba and looking forward to it. Hadn’t really thought about the issues with applying a wheel lock until I called our insurance company on Friday and they are insisting on 3 means of security.

Robferry can you give me any more detail or a photo of the model of clamp you’re using? I think we’ll be buying two and I’m keen to make sure I get one that’s compatible with the wheels without removing the hub caps. Thanks.

It is a few months since Robferry was last online. If you PM him he may get a notification through to his e-mail address.
I know some owners have had to resort to removing the nice shiny hubcaps to get a wheellock on, which is not really ideal.

Thanks Colin, appreciate the info. I've also sent a message to Robferry, so he may come back. I just know that taking hubcaps off and on will be a hassle and I'm most likely going to damage them doing so. Maybe some other owners will offer some advice from their experience. Ta John

I have just paid a deposit on a 2016 Troll with steel wheels and wheel trims. I am now going to have to work out how to get around that problem, as I currently use a wheel lock that clamps to a modified wheel nut... Anyone know any nice Eriba alloys for sale?
