I can’t take credit for this find as it was on FB but I thought it was worth sharing on the forum, this swift bowl fits perfect in the modern Eriba’s sink, mine is a 2015 Familia.

But, unfortunately, it doesn't fit in a 2005 sink...

A very serious question. Does anybody use a bowl, or indeed need one. Surely even one that fitted well would seriously reduce the useable space of an already small sink. I can see the benefit of bowl if you want to carry stuff to the site facilities to wash, but then it would not need to fit in your sink and you could use a bucket or stacking box which are both a more useful size and that I'm guessing you already carry.

I find the sink is too big for the few pots we normally wash, it uses too much water from our internal kitchen tank, this was an interesting FB post an Eriba owner had a hole in his sink from something corrosive which they think was washing up liquid.

Real shame. I thought I'd finally found a bowl that would fit properly - the one I have now is perfect in diameter, but a centimetre too deep. I'm tempted to change the sink to one without the annoying lip for the alleged chopping board (which is just a sink cover, really. Dometic make a couple of likely replacements. Seems a daft cost to go to, but i want my Triton to be just right...

I find it most useful to keep wet/damp things in in transit - tea towels/dish scourers, etc. We use a deep Gratnell's stacka box for dirty dishes and pans - very good because I have a wire drainer that fits it perfectly, plus you can buy a clip on lid for travelling.

So, it might appear madness, but I have removed the perfectly serviceable original sink and replaced it with a new Dometic SMEV VA928 sink. It is slightly wider, but fits in the same hole as the original, then screws down to the worktop, rather than using the complex bolt and finger attachment system. One screw I have replaced with an M3 x 50mm stainless steel bolt - right through the worktop - to attach the earth strap to.

The advantage of this slightly shallower sink is that I have been able to more easily replace the top pull out drawer/chopping board "thing" - that my van had as standard - with another cutlery drawer that I built from scratch. Also the washing up bowl featured in posts above fits perfectly. The hole in the new drawer is to go around the sink waste outlet.

The original "chopping board" also fits the new sink, though i have chamfered the edge to make an even better fit. This will almost certainly be put into storage though, as I have bought the official chopping board to go with the new sink - and this is a lighter weight, "proper" chopping board.

I like what you have done with that rather useless slide out "chopping board" Off to check mine for modification.

Simon, do you have any details on the replacement chopping board. My new van is lacking and I was going to make up a drop in just to make up the work surface space.

Thanks - Colin

Apologies for the auto rotating photos - all seemed fine when i posted them, but they seem to open in bizarre directions when clicked on...

I have just popped to the van to check the measurements for the chopping board. Dometic do make a nice hardwood one, but it is A) Very expensive and B) Sold out everywhere. Could make my own, but too much else to do at the moment.

There seem to be two main sizes for the plastic chopping boards as sold for Swift/Eccles etc. And the sizes are delineated by colour. The dark grey one will fit my new sink - it is listed on various caravan/motorhome dealer sites as 381mm diameter with distance to cut out 303mm, to fit into sink 360mm internal diameter (mine is just this internal size - overall diameter 400mm). Part no CSCB2.

The other one looks the same, but is light grey (white?) and is for bigger sinks - to fit 380mm internal diameter. Overall diameter 406mm. It says to fit 400mm sinks, but only if it has a recessed edge. CSCB1 is the part no. I've added some photos - a useful one I found of an upturned pale one showing measurements across the "lip"

All around the £30 mark - lots on Ebay from different dealers. Just managed to find the smaller dark grey one for £22.50 - now there's just one left with kirstycaravan on Ebay! It looks lighter in colour in the photos (as she says).

Hope that helps,
Simon

...and here are in depth photos of the smaller, dark grey version, that arrived yesterday, with tape measure showing width of recess, etc.

Thanks for the posts. I've got Wandahome checking if one will fit my new van.

So, having e really successful new sink installation, I am left with a perfectly good "old" standard Eriba sink from 2005 (think it was the same for a number of years...)

Is anyone interested in one? It will come with all the fittings for installation, plus a new waste outlet and fittings. In very good condition - just needs a good scrub - has some slight wear marking from the washing up bowl.

Free - just need payment to cover the cost of postage. Contact me if you're interested.

Simon
