If you're prepared to chip in, as well as the average miles per gallon hitched up, obviously, could you say what the vehicle is, the engine size, diesel or petrol, two or four wheel drive, bhp (or PS), torque (Nm) and what the caravan is?

Makes sense if I start, I suppose.

26.5mpg, Skoda Karoq 2.0TSI petrol, 4WD, 235bhp and 405Nm towing a 2008 Troll 540.

As an aside, I had the car remapped six months ago. Prior to that it was the bog standard 187bhp 320Nm, and before the remap I got a towing average of just over 23, so under the somewhat artificial constraints of pulling the tin snail, the mpg has actually gone up.

Because it's quite a lot more fun to drive without the caravan than it was before the remap, the fuel savings are... erm... not quite so conspicuous.

And it's remapped to run best on 98RON E5 petrol anyway, which is dearer. It averages the high 30s solo, fwiw.

Audi A3 1.5 tfsi - 150 bhp 250 N/m towing Feeling 425 at about 1300kg
4 tows so far over 600+ miles at average of 35mpg at 55mph. 5mph either way sees about a 2mpg difference. Solo car returns 70+mpg at same speed.

Audi A3 1.5tfsi towing Triton 430 at 1200kg
32-40mpg depending on length of run and terrain, but similar speeds.

Previous 2.0L Diesel Yeti - 110bhp and 250N towing 900kg Familia and 1200kg Triton
32-40mpg depending on length of run and terrain, but similar speeds.

Basically all the same.

Now elderly ( 13 years old with 112,000 on the clock although regularly serviced) VW Touran Match 2litre TDi 140bhp. Just below 60 mph towing, around 34 mpg. Lightweight Troll (1000kgs laden but the car with all the back seats out, is full of junk.) All speeds up to 80mph solo, around 45 mpg.

Was never much better with towing mpg when new but was a lot better solo at around 55-60mpg.

The idea of a "one size fits all" oil additive to me is more than a little strange. I find it hard to believe how it can cope with diesel or petrol engines, diesel particulate filters or catalysts, turbocharged or naturally aspirated engines Throw in the different viscosity ranges such as my 0-20 as opposed to the old standard of 20-50 and it is starting to sound like a "snake potion".
Oil companies know what they are doing, putting in considerable time and research to develop an oil for an engine with the correct additives.
Like Mademoiselle Pepe, it's not for me.
