Fixing Band
in Anything that's not Eriba-related. Sat Feb 03, 2024 10:40 amby Randa france •

this week for sale in LIDL..
!7mm wide x 12 metres fixing band. Quite heavy duty. £3.99. Couldn't resist a roll as it could be useful for many DIY jobs including hanging loose cables, water pipes etc on the underside of the Eriba.

I've used it to link my fence panels together so they can't be slid out to gain access to the rear of the house.

I suppose a roll of it, some self tappers and a cordless drill would be a good kit to carry for when our pop top clamps fail. You could wrap it around the van and wack a load of screws through it.

Wow, that's a good idea Colin but there's enough on the roll to wrap it completely around the middle and bolt the two ends together
Also good for keeping the washroom door shut. Just put the roll on thr floor and use it as a door stop. It's heavy enough

That’s pretty much the stuff I used to fit the drain pipe (‘Torpedo tube’ according to Adrian Reeves!) where we store the windbreaks and sun canopy poles.
The stuff I used had plastic covering but essentially the same.
I bet it was cheaper at Lidl though! 😂

Yes, seen the "Torpedo Tubes" under Eribas before. Useful for carrying long poles and fishing rods. The fixing band was £3.99 Steve and it appears to be quite decent quality. 12 metres of the stuff, should last me a while.

Giancarlo, I can remember seeing pictures of them but do not recall an specific posting on them. I thought they looked like the plastic soil pipe tubes that some plumbers have on top of their van to carry copper pipe in. With a pair of screw cap ends they have been used by some for awning poles and finishing lines.

Here's one we saw in 2011, fitted under a French Eriba in the South of France. (the box is interesting too)

There are specialist roof tubes for builders vans but they are too long (circa 3metres) and very expensive. However many use soil pipe with end caps simiar to these:-

110mm solvent weld soil pipe. Solvent weld one of these at each end ? This one's a FloPlast with screw cap

I understood, thanks. But, in that position, what do they do about the spare tire?
They probably don't carry one Giancarlo, or it's in the car boot.
For those who carry a spare underslung to the rear of the Eriba, I guess that the tube could be fixed nearer the front.

Sorry, only just seen these last posts; Our tube is 6” soil stack with full-diameter ‘inspection caps’ screwed onto each end so we can get to either side.
I was going to buy some ‘Wavin’ branded tube, but then found a complete tube being sold on flea bay by a dinghy enthusiast. It was the perfect width.
I have some photos somewhere showing how it was fitted - I’ll post them when I find them.

It won’t fit in front of the axle Roger because of the brake rod.
