servicing eriba
Having used John England to service my Eriba and that John has now decided to cut back his work load, I was wondering if any member around the Gtr Manchester area could recommend a local service engineer with experience on our type of caravans.
For those of you that know John, we spoke recently and he is fine and well and still doing work but not as much travelling

I used to have our 555 and 540 serviced by John, so I was also struggling to find a good service engineer. I asked someone who has an Eriba and lives in Warrington where he goes, and he recommended Northern Caravans in Longford St, Warrington. If you’re in Swinton, it’s 30 mins away.
You can get all their details from their website.
Had the 540 serviced last month, and was very impressed with them. They’re only a small outfit, but know their stuff. As they’re so close to you, I would definitely recommend visiting them first to book your van in, and have a look at how you drop off on the day. It looks like a very busy little street, but everything was fine on the day. You basically park outside the unit, and at 9.00am, they come out, check over the van, and then push it into the workshop.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Mark

Hi to you both
This is an interesting one for me too.
Since buying from Cameron in Poole in 2016 we have used AL at Tebay for servicing but it is quite a drive from Clitheroe. We are not unhappy with them at all and always make a few days of it staying at the C & c C site in Kendal or the C & MC site at Meathop Fell near Grange.
However Kath & i are not remotely light campers and our Troll & Karoq are always well-loaded. it is always a pain to unload the van ready for it's service and then reload it at night on site to continue our break. As our bodies start to cooperate less with our gentle requests to live and move things we are finding this to be less fun............
We are seriously considering taking our 540 to a generic servicer locally or getting a mobile engineer to perform the task on our drive. Our dental hygenist is passing on a number of someone they use & are happy with. A task in progress at the moment...

Hi Mark
Thanks for this.
I do remember him being in business in 2015 when we were looking for a Troll but he had nothing suitable in stock and we ended up ordering one from Cameron in Poole.
Just checked online and he still appears to be in business with a couple of elderly Pucks for sale but he (Tony Lloyd, ) mentions getting one of the Pucks serviced by a competent engineer so it doesn't look like he does servicing himself.
Thanks for the heads up though.

This is interesting as bought my 540 new from Poole in 2022, just had 2nd service but is a slog from sunny Slough. Do you experts recommend sticking with an Eriba specialist or can others do a service?

We have ours serviced by a local Approved guy who does it on our drive. Most stuff seems fairly generic. We made the long trip (for us) to John England when we had a specific Eriba problem.

In case anybody is interested, the attached Hymer/Eriba sheets and my own may be of use if you want to do a service yourself..
My insurance policy says vehicle must be kept in a good state of repair and serviced every couple of years. Most of the stuff can be done by a competent person, the only problem being if you find something amiss. If your van is less than 6 years old you will need to add in the water ingress that is needed every year.
My plan is:-
year 1, 3 and 5 - Hymer/Eriba water ingress test by dealer and self service.
year 2,4 and 6 - Hymer/Eriba water ingress test and self service by dealer.

Thank you for posting those,Colin. I am getting my Triton out of storage today for first trip away next weekend (yay!), so will use your guidelines for that. I do almost all my own servicing, just getting gas and brake checks done by a local, recommended, generic caravan service agent.

I went with an independent caravan engineer after my 6 year warranty was over, the servicing with a Hymer dealership is digitally recorded in case you have any warranty claims.
If you can find a Hymer workshop closer to your home then you could use them.
