Are you all planning your holidays for this year?
We've just booked our first. On facebook there's a lovely group of people who all appreciate quiet, authentic campsites in France, away from the parcs aquatiques, entertainments etc. It's called les campings à Papa. They have listings of campsites all over the country. They're having a meeting in May/june and we decided to join them this year. It's a lovely bunch of people if you have some French and like calm campsites.
It's such an exciting time of year. We can all be optimistic before the awful weather comes along and disappoints us all LOL.
This camping year is going to be grrrreat!

I bet Roger has about 6 months worth booked. We have 12 days in June traveling from Devon to Lincolnshire, down to Suffolk, Essex and then back home. 4 days on the south coast of Cornwall in June, then 3 1/2 weeks over August/September mostly in the Loire.

Sorry to disappoint Colin but all things being equal we've had to shorten our intended trip to Spain and Portugal by about a month as we are to become grandparents to yet another sprog in June.
This means we cannot get a return ferry from Santander and we have to drive back through France and pick up a ferry in Cherbourg,

Looking at the overall picture, congratulations. I'm sure your holiday will still be a good one as well.

At long last, I have dialed in a Spain trip for September. Something that I have had on the wish list for a while. In planning the places we will visit, I became aware of how big Spain is!
Lol...

We're not as keen on Spain as we've been with France and many other more easterly countries but we are all spent out with France. Yes, there's always more to see but we are starting to trip over ourselves. Spain IS a big country and there are some really fab places to visit but we find the campsites are not too great.
Now Portugal IS worth a visit even if you link it with a trip to Spain. A small country but lots to see.

Hugh, "Out of interest, what is her objection?"
I wish I could get to the bottom of it. I think she has this fear of hordes of drunken Brits and car park style campsites. The more I ask the more she locks up.She is prepared to do the city break style holidays there though, so we have some hope. I suppose we have been spoilt with France.

That's what we fear too so we try to stay away from the coastal resorts. It's not all like that. Seville is nice as is Cadiz. Up north Bergos is one of our favourite cities.
Even in Cilla's Estepona which has any amount of small Tapas bars etc we came across a number of Brits balancing on a narrow outside pavement surrounding a shopping complex, sat at a small table eating sausage, eggs and chips while dozens of cars were passing by looking for parking spaces.

The basis of our trip is for Kari to get to Seville, Cordoba and Grenada for their significant delights. But that does mean a lengthy trip from the Ferry ports on the north of the country. We can find some other really attractive spots to stop on the journey south and back. But, yes, our love of France and the attractions of a Municipal campsite, where we have been spoilt over many years mean finding suitable campsites for our trip has been, and continues to be a bit of a challenge... (but I dont think impossible..)
Portugal is somewhere where we know quite well as Kari used to have to go there on a quarterly basis when working. So a £9.99 Ryan air flight would mean I was able to join her and we would extend her trip for a few days... But we have got a couple of stops on this trip dialled in - the prehistoric Rock art in the Coa valley and the Mediaeval Star fort ar Castelo Branco..
Overindulging in tapas whilst in Grenada is high on the list...
Colin, perhaps I'll post a trip report highlighting the lack drunken hordes and the charm of the (fingers crossed) campsites we stay on...

Seville, Cordoba and Granada. All well worth a visit and while in Granada don't forget to visit Ronda ( no, not Randa from the Rhondda. To visit the Alhambra we suggest you get there very early as we found that the crowds start appearing after about 10:30am. It has a very large car park so no problems there.
A funny story about Seville, Cordoba and Granada. Later on in our trip we stayed in Aranjuez south of Madrid. While there we got chatting to a young Spanish family from Cordoba. We said that we missed that city out to which several people chipped in "What? You've missed out Cordoba?" This statment has haunted us ever since and we are often asked if we've been there. Too date, no and now we feel it's too late.

How I wish I shared your optimism and confidence in booking holidays abroad well in advance. At the moment I'm on what seems like an interminable waiting list for yet another medical procedure (day surgery but with at least a week's recuperation) so the best I can do is to say is that we hope to get across to France in June and failing that it will have to be in September, all being well.
