New type door retainers anyone tried them?

Been looking on ebay and found some new type exterior door retainers, just wondered if anyone had tried them? and if so can I have some feedback please. We have a Fiamma caravanstore fitted and quite often the wind can catch the door and if I'm not using the "spoon" can attempt to force the door against the stored awning. I do get around this by tying the door back but just wondered how others get on? I have fitted new old type door retainers but to no avail.

I recently replaced the 'Veneta' catch on our van with a cheap one sourced off eBay and while it is better than the old one, it's still a bit iffy.

When I was at AL a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the same design catch fitted to their vans held the door much more firmly needing a strong pull to free the door.

My conclusion is that the quality of the catches varies so perhaps a decent replacement would do the trick?

Not triwd the new ones but noticing that mine is getting a little less secure in terms of holding the door back, so will monitor this thread closely

Yep I know what you mean I did fit a new one earlier this year and it was a "genuine" part. I have on occasion put a bit of tape over the "male" just to thicken it up (sorry not trying to be rude) and that works. The new ones seem a bit more chunky and clunky so thought I'd try one just wondered if anyone had experience of them and if they fit in the same holes!

Just a thought but the door piece of the pair has a specific orientation and it is not immediately obvious which is the correct way round.
The standard retainer usually has quite a firm grip so if it is not age related wear then it may be fitted incorrectly.

They fit like this, wider end to rear of van.

Just switched them round but noticed they are slacker that way, so must be fitted proper way round I'll get another set of "genuine" new type ones and try them many thanks though,

The retainers need to be fitted the way I describe for the curved tongue on the door fitting to engage parallel with the groove on the part fitted to the caravan rail.

As you can see, the door does not fold back parallel with the side of the van, the gap towards the front of the front is wider than that towards the rear, hence the tapered tongue on the door fitting. The whole legth of the tongue is engaged with the groove.

If you fit the part to the door with its wider part facing forward, this is what happens. Only part of the tongue engages with the groove so it cannot hold the door securely.

We have just fitted a new door retainer. Fitted just before the Appletree meet, ordered from Jandi. It holds the door well, it needs a good tug to close the door now.

These are 2 that I've found as an option for the original, one is by Hymer the other by Burstner, I'd have to measure centres but I would be happy to give either a go

You can drill a 2mm hole through both parts and use a wire connecting "pin"
to hold the door in a required position.
