Zip stuck

The LH zip side of the side canvas vent has stuck in the up position, not the RH side of it, so on each trip this year we have not been able to open that vent.

The possibilty is that when Carole used the van for one night a year ago for a Hash event somebody helping her pack up may have used too much muscle, but I am guessing that the tongues of the zip/strip are slightly out of line. We have tried Vaseline inside and out, but that hasn't loosened it and we are stuck for the next solution.

It could be a new one to all and sundry but any ideas please? We don't want to tear or loosen the stitching around it.

That's a bummer, Derek. Candle wax is usually recommended for easing zips but how you would get it into the affected part I have no idea.

Vaseline should do the trick but you need to be careful not to damage the fabric by over-liberal use.

Persistent wiggling of the stuck parts often frees them up but it can be a devil of a job and you may need to be a bit brutal with it. Could you grip the ends of the stuck part carefully with pliers while you do the pulling and twisting on the tab? What about heating it up with a hair dryer first to soften the plastic and encourage the Vaseline to spread?

I have just looked at ours, and the zip puller (of which there are 2 per vent, left and right hand) actually can go right over the apex to join the other "parked" puller, you would need to look to u derstand this unless you have already noticed it. So therefore you may be able to either continue to pull the puller right over or pull it back, as for vaseline, not for me

Two thoughtful answers thanks. Yes I have noticed and tried except the pliers which occurred to me but Carole doesn't want to and the hair dryer. I will try when she's not looking.

could it be the prongs that change the direction stuck in, if so you need a seat a glass of something nice and a pin and wiggle the bit hold onto while moving the direction changer, or move the finger and thumb bit up and down to activate a slider, the glass contents is to keep calm
think you can buy just this zip bit without the whole teeth zip strip

Thanks and having just had a glass or two will not attempt it tonight, or tomorrow as on the sales desk of an art exhibition at Bursledon Brickyards, near Southampton.

Just had another look at ours and I'm wondering if you pull the pull tag at 90° to the slider part of the zip if it will free it, similar I tjink to the "prong" reply above

Thanks, will try/ I assume you mean 90 deg to the body of the slider.

How do you get the degree symbol on a PC? Never had one before

Hold down the 'Alt' key and type 0176 on the numeric keypad (not the numbers across the top) release the Alt key and hey presto °

O, ye of little faith! Try it. It's the same as Alt 130 for é, Alt 129 for ü, Alt 164 for ñ etc.

Now you can write Citroën correctly (Alt137)
