12V problem

Discovered today that nothing works on battery power, it all works on mains. The battery is not the problem, swapped with the car battery and still nothing worked. All the fuses seem to be fine. Have no technical know how, we have called up an auto electrician that we used to use when we still had our garage business. Until he comes does anyone have any suggestions. Please try and keep it simple as I "know nothing",
Julie.

Sometimes fuses "look" ok but are not .........try swapping them for new ones anyway.

It could also be a "dry joint" this can happen when the joints are either soldered or coupled with connectore. As you 've lost power to everything my logic would be it is a major lead (if it's a dry joint) so try giving them a wiggle! As you have tried swapping the battery it is'nt a dry joint on those connectors, but worth a try anyway. I hope this helps, if not best of luck and enjoy the wiggles

wonder if there is a isolator switch somewhere
there is a fuse on one of the battery wires, in a little black square thing check that
fingers crossed something cheap and easy to fix

Thanks all for your replies, will get Neil to try the fuses and I will try wiggling. Seriously I think that may be what started the problem (although it may be a coincidence). I found a loose wire and tried to connect it back to the little box thing and there was a bit of a flash and bang, think I may have done some damage. The lights stopped working on 12v at that point, now several weeks later everything has packed up. Think I will stick to my original statement "I didn't do it and you can't prove anything". Not sure Neil is buying it though.

Well despite the fact that the fuses looked ok, they were the problem. All sorted now, moral of the story, those who have no electrical knowledge should leave loose wires alone. I thought I was being helpful but you know what thought did!
