Bike carrier

]I have just acquired a Halfords 2 bike carrier, the type that fits between the tow ball and tow bar, 2 legs drop in, and the bikes are then suspended. Does anyone have experience of this type of carrier and can the caravan be towed safely when bike carrier is in place?

Any advice recommendations are welcome

Hi Bryn, We have just purchased this "Maypole" bike carrier for the sum of £37 plus postage from Ebay. It is very solid and will support three bikes totalling 140kg

Blimey is that the bike you are going to carry? I used to ride one of those to and from the wholesaler for my parent's general shop back in the 50s

Hi, We too have this bike rack that we use on our car when not towing... our caravan came with a bike rack fitted. We have used it many times and cannot see it being a problem when towing. The only problem we have had is remembering which way to secure the bikes... we always seem to get the peddles in the way of the spokes etc!! Any rubbing of the bikes against each other, just use a t.towel wrapped around the peddle/bar etc to stop scratching. Foam pipe insulation works well.

Without really concentrating on the TV programme that is currently on in the background ("Rip Off Britain - Holidays") one of the presenters rattled off a list of "don't" when driving abroad. I missed them all except this one:-
"It is illegal in Portugal to carry bikes on the back of the car." Confirmed by the AA:- http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/tou...ps/portugal.pdf
Well, well, I didn't know that, did you?

I believe it's also illegal in Portugal to tow a car behind your campervan.
