For the last few years the annual service and MoT of both my car and Mrs SDA's Yaris Verso have both been in October

Last week I paid out £750 or so for a service, MoT, two new rear springs and a rear exhaust box on the Yaris and today a further £570 for a service, MoT plus new brake pads all round and two new front brake discs. Mind those pads have lasted from new ans managed 32,000 miles so that's not bad going. Still £1,300 in a week or so is not nice.

ouch, was that a main dealer?
you could get a mot is it 30 or 14 days before test due date? the computer ensures the dates are correct

That's exactly what I thought.

What are your garage's labour rates, Andy? Seems a bit steep...

As Pop says above, you can get your MoT done up to 30 days early and still keep the same expiry date. And you don't have to have your cars serviced at precise 12 month intervals. Unless you're doing interstellar mileages a few weeks either way aren't going to make any difference to anything.

It was a local Kia dealer for the Cee'd and Toyota dealer for the Yaris.

Parts for the Cee'd were £182 with the pads at £67, discs £83, the rest being oil, filters, antifreeze etc.

Labour was £255.80 for MoT, Service and fitting new pads all round plus new front discs.

A dodgy brake sensor was replaced FOC under the 7 year warranty, the car being almost exactly five years old. That warranty runs from when I purchased it in Feb 2011, so the car will have a warranty 'til it's 8 years and 3 months old.

Parts for the Yaris were £425 with the rear springs at £257, exhaust £94 and the balance oil, filters etc

Labour was £329 for MoT, Service and fitting two rear springs and a rear exhaust box.,

Changing garage may reduce the bill by a marginal amount but it would still be a big bill.
