New Eriba touring dealers??

I was searching on the Hymer website and it shows Lowdhams in Huddersfield and in Nottingham as Eriba touring dealers? I use the Huddersfield one for my servicinyg as they are official Hymer dealers and they can stamp my book, I was there in August and I asked if they would be ever selling Eribas as they use to a few years ago. They said that they were struggling to sell the new Hymer vans and they didn't think they would be selling the Eriba touring range in the near future?
Maybe things have changed and they will be stocking them?

Lowdhams have always been listed as dealers by Hymer although historically they rarely sold any Tourings, preferring to concentrate on anglicised versions of Eriba Novas etc that they insisted had to be branded 'Hymer' as they felt the Eriba name in the UK was too downmarket and they wanted the product associated with the upmarket Hymer motorhomes, which Brownhills had the exclusive rights to at the time. The anglicisation didn't amount to much, often amounting to just the addition of an oven, sometimes in some really daft positions.

During the recession they were still listed as appointed dealers on the Hymer website, but you couldn't find even a Hymer logo on Lowdham's website, you'd be forgiven for thinking they no longer held the franchise.

When Hymer opened up a big sales push a couple of years ago they appointed a lot more agents around the UK, although most were more interested in the motorhome side, rather than caravans.

We bought our Eriba from lowdhams 5yrs ago and it was of the last they sold. We were told at the weekend by one of their sales people that it is very likely that they will be selling the touring range again in the future. Personally, if we were looking to buy a new Eriba we would visit Airstream at Tebay.

They're miles away from us and I heard so many bad things about Lowdhams anyway

I spoke with the Lowdhams people on the Hymer stand at the NEC show last month when we were down looking at the Hymer Nova GL & SL as an option for replacing our Sporting.

They are only importing a set range of the new GL & SL and only built to their specific options.
As I was not to impressed with the build quality of either the GL or SL range I let rip and told them in no certain terms that they'd never get an order from me taking that approach.
They also had a couple of small Eriba's on display and did say that they were back selling them again but again to a fixed options unlike the great and wonderful Jandi who order the van you want to the specification and all the options you want.

Highbridge were one of the dealers who got a Hymer franchise out of the dealership expansion of a couple years back. They too seem to have opted for the Lowdham policy of you can have any Hymer (Eriba) van you like provided they're the ones we stock. Whilst down there in September I noticed they still had brand new the 2014MY Hymers for sale that arrived in autumn 2013. Very, very expensive and not to our taste anyway. So it seems they're proving hard to shift.

Round the corner in the motorhome area you couldn't move for brand new Hymers. Whether that means they were hard to shift too I couldn't say, but they certainly had invested many hundreds of thousands in motorhome stock, compared to about £70,000 in Hymer caravans.

You raise an interesting point. When travelling around Europe, we see hundreds of Motorhome dealerships, each with a huge amount of stock. Sometimes these dealerships are within a few hundred metres of each other.
Do you think they carry the stock on a sale or return basis?

I have only dealt with Jandi twice, but they were amazing, great prices, great service, efficeint delivery, get my vote everytime, if we were to buy new I would consider getting it from the despite the travelling distance

I suspect most dealers work on a stocking plan or plans where they either get subsidised financing from manufacturers at advantageous rates on unsold new stock and/or through finance houses on their used stock.

I also suspect that one of the reasons that motorhome dealers charge such large margins on their vans (circa £5,000 compared to a caravan dealers £2,000) is to help defray the cost of stocking finance and the relatively long time motorhomes sit on the forecourt compared to caravans.

Oh and another vote for Jandi here

The more Eriba touring dealers the better, it will give people more choice and easier access to view them and hopefully a bit of healthy competition. AL seem to have cornered the promotional market with the range of vans, deals and also a very convenient pick up and delivery service.
However my hat goes off to Jandi for after sales and a personal service that is second to none.......
