I think the title has given you my question just asking because they look awful, but don't want to be a danger to other road users!!!!!

I have always used mirrors, you will be surprised how much extra you can see. Have read of this link for the technical advice and the law.

Hi Rob.
John beat me to the link which makes interesting reading.

There are another 2 good reasons for using them:-
1) To pacify any bobbies in passing Police vehicles.
2) I know I had a bit of a joke with you the other day about T5's and narrow lanes, but extension wing mirrors are useful to gauge the width of your Eriba. If the mirrors will get through the gap then you can be confident that the Eriba will too.

Randa

ps. Has Dom delivered it yet?

Simples - if the rear width of your tow vehicle is LESS than the max width of of your Troll then you are required (or advised ! ) by law to fit extending mirrors, which can be adjusted from inside the tow vehicle) i.e. fit on the existing door mounted mirrors. There are diagrams on the Gov web site showing what areas you need to be able to view when towing ! I use them when towing my Puck L - don't find them of any help whatsoever - but keeps the 'boys in Blue away !

I use them when towing our Triton and can't imagine why anyone would even think of not using them.

I use them all the time, but have played with the position of the aero head (this to alleviate shake)

On the subject of extended wing mirrors, I wonder if anyone has experience of using the type of mirror which attaches to the car mirror by means of a suction pad?
I ask as I have the chance of buying a pair but wonder if they will remain attached or will the vacuum fail.

As ever, all advice etc gratefully received.

David

Hi David , I use suck and see and they have never dropped off. There is an elastic cord which attaches around the wing mirror so if they do fall off they won't drop on the floor and they are light weight, they also only take seconds to attach
They don't stick out as far as the standard towing mirrors which are ideal for Eribas and if you have adjustable wing mirrors you can alter them from inside the car.
The only drawback is that they do obscure the main mirror with the suction pad and that takes a little bit of getting use to, and if you have a deep lip edge on your car mirror it may make attaching the sucker difficult ..

They work ok for me..........

Hi Poptop320

Thanks for that . I can try these mirrors out, so will give them ago and then decide.

Meantime I have been in touch with jandi about replacement grab handles, Herzim trim and sundry other bits and pieces. I found jandi very helpful and prompt in their replies, so no doubt some business will be done.

Best wishes to all

David

To be safe you should use extended mirrors http://www.lifesure.co.uk/blog/2013/06/c...u-know-the-law/
(ignore the bit about cameras) having these mirrors
will also help avoiding the random checks that VOSA
makes, next year there will be additional checks and
£50 spot fines. (about £30 for Milenco Aero mirrors save
£20?)
