Tow bar fitting

I have had a fitting and long story short - they have fitted the wrong ball as I specifically said it was for an Akko stabiliser , when I asked I was also told they no longer cut a number to fit But when I have gone down on my knees I find a section of my bumbler moulding has been trimmed away. You can't see it unless you look underneath rather than rear view. Has anyone else come across this. My vehicle is a cmax.

Is your tow ball a swan neck or a bolt on? If it is a bolt on then you should be able to use the correct tow ball as in the link. If it is a swan neck then they usually accommodate the Alko hitch anyway. As for cutting a bit of your trim its not unusual, they did it to my Dacia Duster as well....

It's a bolt on not a swan neck. If they were to fit a swan neck would they still have had to cut my bumper.? I have to take it back in the morning for them tochange it. Only discovered it when I conveyed a little dissatisfaction with the service as despite booking it in two weeks ago I turned up at appointment only to be told the section had not arrived and was a next day so had to go back day later now I have to how back again,! Would have been like the hulk if I had driven 6hours to collect my eriba only to discover wrong fitting!

I suppose it differs from car to car with the bumpers and the clearance for the tow bar, my Dacia has a detachable swan neck still needed part of the rear scuff plate cutting.

Thanks looked it up and the year on my cmax does mean cutting a bit under side of bumper - just have to have the tow bit changed as a flange is on there. Do I need know any specific on alko stabiliser or is it just a generic one type fits all.

the tow ball itself needs to be the alko one, it has a longer neck, and slightly further away from the bumper, than the trailer tow balls,
we have a spacer fitted on our bolt tow bar and alko ball, to ensure during road corrugations the hitch doesn't catch the bumper.

Just remember Taffy that if the tow ball head is painted you will have to remove the paint otherwise it will stick to the brake pads in the Alko hitch...

On our CMax there is no cut away and it's a swan neck, the only problem and it is is small is the position of the Elec socket which is quite a way under the car.
