I'm looking to buy an awning for our 1984 Familia and like the look of the Abri Dom on the Automotive Leisure website. Before I hand over my husbands hard earned cash, any opinions on them? I dont want a traditional style awning and the drive away awning fitting puts me off those. This seemed to be a nice design and with the zip out front and large side windows should be quite airy.

Whatever you buy be sure to tell them the age of the van ...........post 2009 the awning rail is higher up and you don't want to get the wrong one.

Hi Sarah. The Abri Dome.
I don't think many people know much about this particular awning as I think AL have not been offering it for sale for that long. Another member on here asked the self same question as you a few months ago :- newbie

All we are able to say about it is that it looks to be quite popular in France and it is made by Clairval who are very good French awning manufactures. http://www.sos-camping-loisirs.com/auven...10-cp61712.html

We have a conventional style Clairval awning which is sure to be at least 15 years old and it's still giving us good service.

Hope that's of some help to you.

Randa

According to AL the Abri Dom is a pain to put up, only fits the later models and is more of a sun canopy. Now looking at the Flex awning which i've found on Oberlink for £286 which is a lot cheaper than the £540 from AL. Anyone bought from Oberlink? Or got a Flex?

Here's a discussion that has taken place regarding the Eurotrail Flex Sarah Eurotrail flex
Looks like a couple of members have bought one but perhaps have not had time to try it out yet although mrs_c is on her second (newly designed) one.

Thanks Randa. I've taken a risk and bought one. According to AL the fit is good for pre 2009 models and at £295 delivered its so much cheaper than anything else we liked. I will follow the other thread to see who puts theirs up first, lol.

That's great news Sarah and we've suddenly remembered something.
About 30 of us have seen one being erected because ChrisandPapasmurf turned up to the Summer Meet at Gloucester with a brand new one. Understandably, it probably took them a little longer as it was the first time they had put it up but it looked OK with loads of room inside. They were very pleased with it.
Here's a couple of photos of it on their Triton.
