Hi all,

We've owned our Puck for nearly a year now. Last year we toured europe twice so covered 100's of miles. Germany and Denmark first trip out and all the way to lake garda in the summer.
What should we be looking at for servicing, do we do it ourselves, contact a mobile engineer (northants) and if so how much do we expect to pay?

Hi Tony.
I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't get it done more regularly but because we assumed that our van had been given a good "going over" by AL before we bought it, we didn't get it serviced until last year. In the meantime I estimate we had towed it about 10,000 miles. However, I did regularly check brakes, wheels, tyres etc before each trip and wielded the grease gun on occasions.
Last year we called in the experts, Mobile Caravan Engineers and the guy who covers our area was really good and thorough (as far as I know ).
Good luck in the London Marathon next month. Many of us will be at Stratford cheering you on

Mobile servicing is the way to go as long as there is one in your region. Where are you?
They will generally be cheaper than caravan dealer workshops and definitley cheaper than Eriba dealers! The running gear and works of an Eriba are basically the same as all caravans so shouldn't present a problem to a qualified service agent.
One big benefit of using a mobile servicer is that you can watch every step and ask questions along the way.

Good advice here of course and it depends where you are. Today is our Puck's day.

There used to be a schedule of service items online. It's now here:
Check List
It would give you a good idea of what needs to be done, if you're feeling handy.

Hi Tony, here is a brief video explaining the key points of a service. When I had my previous Puck serviced in 2012 it cost about £150

What about the water ingress warranty test? can anyone other than the dealers do that? Ours is going in to AL for 1st service and water ingress test the week after next and I fear a stupid bill for this every year. They are going to fix some outstanding warranty snags, so this year I'll wear it, but I reckon 6 years of water tests will be more than the cost of a repair if we did ever have a leak.

You can use other Hymer dealers, I bought my Eriba from AL and it is a 500 mile round trip if I was to go back there for its annual service. I use a Hymer dealership in Huddersfield that has carried out warranty work for me and serviced the van including the important damp test and stamp. Last year it cost me £236 for a full service and damp stamp.

Just home after collecting our Puck from AL and very happy that there were no other factors for them to deal with other than our request to fit a new thingy to make the RH knob on the grill stay on. It's got a name but I can't rememer.

We each fiddled with the new Reich mover in their carpark after Nigel's careful and patient tuition, Jason was very busy but took our huge payment of course. Carole and I became happy we could operate it and drove off, she still driving and between us very carefully parked it easily alongside the house where it's always been. Dead chuffed to say the least. One new purchase will be a power drill and nut adaptor to operate both the mover and the corner steadies. We were given an A Frame cover and a calendar too.

Other folk nosing around of course and in chatting, one was thinking about a Familia, the others came to collect their new Eriba. I did tell them about this site and hopefully they will remember and join in. At home here, I realised I did have some EribaFolk cards Frantone gave me, but forgot about them.

On a service, does anyone know if they take off the wheels and check the pads in the brake drums? think that's what they are called!!
Our mover is being fitted next week and then hope we can get the van out of the drive much easier. Also 3 new tyres are being fitted as our spare is dated 2001, which is a year earlier than the van was manufactured!

Yes Keith and Christine, pretty sure they do. They don't throw in a water ingress test though, that's +£80.

So if it breaks they service it????

I hope that Roger has taken the time to watch the video posted above in which case he shall have noticed that TWO separate people should check the torque on the wheel bolts. So if he's given his beloved other half the torque wrench and told her to get on with the job then he should really be thinking about going out to buy another for himself. Do it soon, Roger, remember - 'it's the early bird that catches the worm'.

The one thing you can be certain of Alan is that the other half doesn't need any gadget to do the torquing. She can torque for Britain without any help
