Floor :-(

So after close inspection it seems the floor just under our door has seen better days. The chassis is fine. My question is how hard is it to replace the floor of the caravan? It's a eriba 1976 triton. All In all its in great condition I just want to sort this before it gets worse. Thanks

Have a look here Eriba Triton needing a lot of welding (2) at post #19 where Mark explains how he cut out and made up a complete new insulated floor.
Is your patchable? Cutting out and replacing the rotten bit + a bit would be far easier I suspect.

Thanks randa. The pictures I dreaded!! DoI have to strip the whole interior out? :-( we go away in 2 weeks in it and yes it's perfectly serviceable but really hoped we could fix it before

If it's delaminated you can buy cheap kits to effect a repair ebay is a good place to look for the kits

I have no experience myself, but last year I saw a guy under his caravan drilling when we were on site, later I asked him what he was doing, and he was using a delam kit. Apparently you drill holes in a circle and then inject the glue with the supplied syringe and wait for it to set

I see no reason why someone with diy experience (not me I'm useless I can clean though) could'nt mix some poxy that should be epoxy glue and these days you can buy syringes on ebay you could do it yourself and save money, easy to do I reckon

Thanks for the reply. We have looked on YouTube and the process looks quite easy. The method we are hoping to use is the one shot system which u do from the inside. I'm just curious if the floor in a eriba is the same as a "normal" caravan. I can't see why it would be different but was hoping someone would know.

I shouldn't think there would be too much of a difference. We do have a few members with other makes of caravan so perhaps they will know.
Meanwhile, here's an interesting thread on "undersealing" the floor. Underseal

Hi, I replaced the whole of my 1980 Triton. You want to avoid that. the doorway seems to be a common place to go. Is it springy on top or is it just a problem underneath? If underneath you could just glue some 6mm ply to cover the whole area. The floor is top layer of roughly 6mm ply a bottom layer of 3mm and batons between all held together with expanding foam. The whole floor is about 30mm thick. It seem all the Eribas of that time had the same floors.

Hi mark. Thanks for your reply. It's springy in the middle too :-( flaky in patches underneath but hasn't gone through so glueing ply to it may be a option. To solve the springy floor would you say a delamination kit will work? Also how did u replace the floor? Did you have to remove the whole interior

Hi Yes the kit should make a difference. Something may have happened to the foam in the floor so packing it out and rebonding it should work. To take the whole floor out will mean taking out the interior. I had to take it up anyway to have a lot of welding done so was worth me replacing as mine was springing about in a couple of areas. Unless it seems really bad I would leave it as a winter job and enjoy the van for the rest of the year. It would take a lot for it to break as it has a lot holding it together here is a link to someone who has done a major repair without taking out the interior : http://www.passion-eriba.org/t11242-plancher-mauvais-etat

Some really good photos.

Thanks mark really appreciate the advice. Hoping to fix it to enjoy the summer and festivals then think the hubby is going to rip it out and put a new floor in (unless I think the kit has made a good enough improvement)
